Show THE HIGHLAND BOY MILL I Work in Its Construction to Begin Immediately Yesterday the Highland Boy Mining company of Bingham awarded the contract for the construction of its new 100ton mill to Joseplj Dederick the wellknown millwright Work in the erection of the plant will begin at j once and the contract calls pr its com pletion by the 1st day of August soon I after which it is confidently believed that the company will begin the shipment ship-ment of gold bullion and the payment of dividends The contract for the machinery of the plant was let some time ago to the Mine Smelter and Supply company of Denver and The Herald is informed that when the works are completed this will be one of the finest mills ever erected in the west and it will well be worthy of the mine which is said to be one of the most promising producers pro-ducers of the yellow metal ever opened up in this intermountain region and as work progresses in its development the ore bodies are gaining in size in a most encouraging manner The mill which will be as nearly automatic au-tomatic in its workings as a mill can be was designed by Thomas Weir the manager of the property and A J Bettles the wellknown millman while the plans were drawn by Herman Un zicker the draughtsman In the employ em-ploy of the E P Ellis Machinery company com-pany and tHe details were worked out by the F M Davis iron works of Denver Den-ver The machinery equipment of the plant will embrace two Blake crushers 8x10 two revolving 18foot dryers three sets of 15x30 rolls six amalgamation pans three settlers ten leaching tanks of steel with a diameter of 22 feet and a depth of 4 feet 10 inches two storage tanks one sump tank two I gold solution tanks one 16x21 Hamilton Corliss engine which can be compounded com-pounded if desired and two 16foot I boilers of the best make In the reduction of the ore according to the plans the mineral will be conveyed con-veyed in ore oars from No 5 tunnel which is the working level and is 400 feet from the crusher After being crushed the pulp falls into a bin with a holding capacity of 400 tons From this bin the crushed ore is conveyed automatically to the dryer from where it falls over a screen the fine product elevated to ore bins above The coarser material i conveyed to the sizing roller roll-er where after being sized it also passes into the elevator At the top of the elevator the coarse and thC fine ore are passed over a Bartlett screen the finer going through a iO mesh and drops into a bin below while the coarse ore runs over an Smesh screen and is conveyed Into another bin while the coarser product is carried back to the peated finishing rolls where the process Is re i I I It has been demonstrated that a very large portion of the free gold is in the fine pulp which is conveyed into the amalgamation pans where it is successfully suc-cessfully treated while the coarser material ma-terial is carried to the leaching tanks for reduction By this combination process it is believed be-lieved that a very high saving will be made and Messrs Wicr and Betties state that from experimental tests already r al-ready made they are satisfied that j I they will he able to make a saving ranging from 85 to 80 per cent of the j i t assay value of the ore and while they I do not say soIt is plain to be seen j that they expect to make even a higher j i high-er saving than this j The lloor 1 of 1 ground the mill building will be 157x190 feet The structure will I i be built on a side hill so that the law j of gravitation will largely rule in the J handling of the ore from the time that I It enters the crushers until it comes out below in the shape of tailings It would be hard to describe the dimen dltr I slons of the building but every portion I por-tion of it will be built with the idea of an economic application of power I The Highland Boy ore is an oxidized I ironstained quartz that carries gold j and silver but the principal value of the mineral is in gold The ore bodies I I In t eg rino are large and the nine is In shape so I I that it can be successfully easily and j cheaply worked and operated Extensive I Exten-sive tests were made before the design j for the mill was made and the contract j for the building of the same was let < so that it Is the opinion of experienced f I mining men that the enterprise will be a most successful one I A blue print drawing of the proposed I mill is given herewith I FJ v t III ft I I i Jf N 4 fcn k ff fa f Wf W MMW H I THE HIGHLAND BOY MILL |
