Democratic Counsels t Special to The Herald BOISE Ma Oct 30James H Hawley Haw-ley of the Democratic congressional com inittee has Issued the following address To the Democratic Voters of Idaho 1 In behalf oC the Democratic advisory committee representing all parts of the stiite and an a member of the concres slnnal campaign committee I deem It proper at this time to state to the Democratic Demo-cratic voters of the state the situation which wjll confront them on election day and to advise what course they should suwe with respect to It The national Democracy as represented JV our standard bearer and canoldate for presidency W J Bryan has spoken J through Senator James K Jones chairman chair-man of he national committee to the i Democrats ot this state An extraordl nary situation confronted us when this message was sent United States Senator Fred T Dubois with Senator Teller and i others bad left the Republican convention conven-tion at St Louis and announced their I intension of supporting our candidate for the presidency This had brought to our I aid hundreds of thousands of sliver Republicans Re-publicans In the Mississippi valley and made possible the success of our candidate candi-date which now awaits us In recognition Of this heroic act Senator Sena-tor James JC Jones chairman of our rational committee advised the Democracy Demo-cracy of Idaho that Senator Dubois nag nlfleent services and patriotism must be rccocnlzed and that he should be returned re-turned to the senate This advice was iinbeeJed for the reasons that the tele crams of Chairman Jones were suppressed sup-pressed In the flrst Instance by those to whom they were sent I Two personal representatives of Chairman Chair-man Jones members of the national i Democratic committee one of them secretary sec-retary of that committee were seht to Idaho for the purpose of bringing about a union of the silver forces whereby Du bois and hIs slIver Republican friends would be recognized That they were I not successful In this is owing solely I to the fact that a few selfconstituted leaders of the Democratic party in Idaho refused to recognize this authority because be-cause It would Interfere with their personal per-sonal political ambitions Chairman Butler of the Populist na tional committee likewise urged upon the Populist party of Idaho that Dubois should be recognized but his dispatches were suppressed and his request entirely ignored by the Populist managers here I have been a Democrat all my life and have helped to fight the battles of Democracy In Idaho for 25 years I have always recognized the wish of the ra tional committee as every true Democrat Demo-crat should To refuse to recognize the t request of the national committee is of course an Injury to the cause for which that committee and Sir Bryan are con ttndlnjr To take such a course Is to r run counter to the highest Democratic counsels and that too In a campaign I which portends more for the cause of true Democracy and humanity than any which has taken place In this generation Ab member of the congressional cam paign committee of which Senator Faulkner Faulk-ner is chairman I could not do otherwise than follow tho national counsel of my party I have done so and In so doing t believe that I am following the course of the obiS true Democracy which exists 4n Idaho today Senator Dubois and his friends have offered an honorable union of the silver forces In Idaho but that has been re jected by tIle Populist managers and by a few of the local politicians In the Democratic I Dem-ocratic party who feared It would In terfere with ther choice for office The Silver I Republicans then presented a ticket which endorsed arrr and Sewall and Senator Dubois and stands for their success This ticket is composed equally of Democrats and Sliver Republicans It Is the only ticket In the field which Is not openly antagonistic to the election of I Senator Dubois and consequently to the wish of our national committee I There is no straight Democratic ticket In the field in Ih state There tJr ei hybrid ticket composed of Democrats and Populists called the PeoplesDemocratic ticket which is t and never has been recognized by the national Democracy but which on the contrary is now doing all It can < for the defeat of Senator Du bois It is therefore antagonizing the express wish of our national organization In view of this condlton of affairs I believe it my duty to urge every true Democrat of Idaho who favors the election elec-tion of Bryan and Sew all and who desires de-sires to follow the course mapped out bv our national committee to vote the Electors Democratic ticket from top to bottom This ticket It Identical with the Silver Republican ticket both appearing uptra the official ballot in separate columns the names on each being identical i identi-cal Respectfully I rf f JAMES H HAWLEY It Member Democratic Congressional Committee F Com-mittee for Idaho and Member ot
