for-get The King forefathers were prominent promin-ent in revolutionary times and in the Veins of some of the Kings of today flows the blood of Patrick Henry the patriot who struck the keynote of American independence King the campaigner cam-paigner appealed to the patriotism of the Kings of Piute with such signal success that all were brought Into the silver fold except Thomas E who will iac vote for his nephew Will 1 King because as he expresses himself Will is too good a Democrat to vote for me if I g candidate and I am to good a Republican to vote for him although I a proud of him SOUTHERN CAMPAIGN SUCCESSFUL SUCCESS-FUL The entire campaign In the southern tier of counties wa sucessful but the most effective work was done in Sevier county The campaigners found the Democracy of the county with the exception ception o Monroe precinct in a badly organized condition This condition a affairs they learned to be due to the apathy of the members and not to demoralization de-moralization a the opponents of Democracy Dem-ocracy claim The pronounced apathy was found to be due tPUvo causes the lack of money If which to wage an aggressive campaign and the disgruntled dis-gruntled attitude of a number of soreheads sore-heads who defeated In the convention are now using the knife of disparagement disparage-ment in order to heal their wounds Weber and King addressed several meetings Weber alone at Arnabella Vermilion and Salina and King alone nt Elslnore Glenwood and Richfield where he divided his time with Warren Foster the Populist nominee for Foste Populst nomlne Congress gross All were well attended but die largest audience was at Salina with RIchfield a close second The meeting at Salina was the largest In the history his-tory of the town A brass band enlivened enliv-ened the proceedings and Wehers proeedIng Wcrs oratory ora-tory fired the people Many converts to the cause of silver were made a record also made by at Richfield King Rlcfcld The result re-sult of the meetings was the putting o some ginger Into the anatomies of the Democrats and i the good work continues con-tinues victory be wrested may wrstl from apparent ap-parent defeat The county ba been in the possession i of McKlnleyites since the campaign opened Money is plentiful plen-tiful among tem and that some of Mark Hannas campaign fund has reached Sevier county Is apparent In furnishings of the Republican headquarters head-quarters In Richfield They are the best in the state newspapers from allover all-over the Union grace the reading tables and pies of goldbug literature attest the interest the Hansia committee has taken In Sevier county politics GOIDBUGS AT WORK A force of campaigners consisting of John Metcer Gideon Snyder Vernal Kapp o Cache county and FOR BRYAN I McKlnleyites concede that the Bryan Bra and Sewall electors will receive 75 Sewal elector wi rcele percent per-cent of the votes polled admit that I the race between King and Holbrook for congress will be close and claim 1 the election of Jim Bolitho the Republican 1 I Re-publican candidate for state senator and of Simon Christiansen the Repub lican candidate for the house of rep resentatives From outward appearances appear-ances i King J G Wright the Democratic Dem-ocratic candidate for state senator and B H Greenwood the Democratic can Democratc cn didate for representative are defeated the blame can be laid at the door of the Democratic managers The fact that Sevier hjxs I tat always been a Repub Bean county and that the adverse ma I jority last year was 125 seems to be the dampeners of the Democratic ar Democratc dor but everything politically except in so far as the a county ticket is tcket concerned con-cerned indicates a Democratic year there and a little push and vim should I make the Indication a reality Jim Bolitho has already been discussed CHRISTIANSEN INTERVIEWED His legislative mate Simon Chris tiansen also resides at Richfield He i 1 is a farmer had served the people asa f as-a justice of the peace and is prominently I promi-nently Identified with irrigation mat e ter I interviewed him by proxy t yesterday prox I f In answer to a query he said matter would much thought JC believe I hU you should go Into fhe Republican Republic-an caucus and the caucus indorsed Brown would you support Brown or would you bolt the caucus I do not believe that I would support sup-port any man who stands on the financial finan-cial plank of the St Louis platform and as I understand Browns position he Is supporting McKinley and the Republican Re-publican platform I that is true I will not support him Christiansens attitude toward Brown will amuse the good people of Sevier When the senator first began the invasion in-vasion of the vales of Sevier Chris tiansen was his fidus achates Friends soon persuaded him to part with Utahs boss IcKinleyite and on the second day Brown was left to make his political pilgrimage alone B H Greenwood the Democratic candidate for the house of representatives tives is more popular than Christian sen Christiansen is called a water hog by his neighbors and the title is given him because of his proneness to utilize the irrigation ditch to the detriment of his fellow Irrigators Greenwood is also interested In irrigation irriga-tion matters but he has the reputa tion cf always being willing to have an equal division of water He Is also interested in farming mining and milling mill-ing enterprises in the early days he was a freighter in Nevada and Utah and has by his business ability an1 enterprise secured a competency He is sound on all matters now interesting interest-ing the people of Utah is a good speaker a speak-er valuable and his experience legislator will make of him A SAMPLE OF DIRTY POLITICS The Republicans claim that every nominee on theircounty ticket will befi elected A bitter fight is being waged and in the case of one Democratic candidate dirty politics is being engaged in The object of the mud ttack is Elmer W McDaniel who aspires to the ofllce of county attorney He is an aggressive Democrat and enjoys a popularity which will I believe be-lieve i result in his election by a heavy majority despite the warfare being waged upon him His opponent and his henchmen admit that Mc is an honorable gentleman and a capable lawyer but are endeavoring to cast discredit upon him by circulating a garbled and misstated record of cases In which he has been counsel The Richfield Advocate John Meteors paper pa-per weekly devotes the greater part of its space to criticising McDaniel and in lauding his opponent J B Jennings Jen-nings 01 J W Jennings as he is sometimes called or J Bryan Jennings as he likes to call himself Mr Jennings advertises that he has practiced for 20 years in the supreme courts of the United States his organ or-gan the Advocate advertises him as a gentleman possessing eminent legal l attainments at-tainments and as one In whom the people peo-ple of Sevier can place Implicit confi dence But neither he nor the Advocate Advo-cate advertise his antecedents Tn circular cir-cular form a twocolumn criticism of McDaniel and laudation of Jennings which appeared in the Advocate has been printed and a copy mailed to almost al-most every voter in the county but there is no mention of Jennings experience ex-perience in courts other than those In the judicial district in which he resides By an oversight probably Jennings career in Logan in Cache county this state is not alluded to Although i is shown that Jennings is the circulator circula-tor of this choice literature no one who knows him will accuse him of alack a-lack l of modesty for not recounting his careers in Texas Colorado and Nebraska Ne-braska Like Mr Jennings and the author of the Advocate article I do not care to delve into his antecendents prior to his coming to Utah JENNINGS RECORD IN LOGAN Mr J B Jennings once practiced law in Logan On May 2 1S92 George L Corey of Ogden appeared before Commissioner C C Goodwin and swore to a complaint charging one J B Jennings Jen-nings with suborning a witness I was in the case of John Mont accused of an assault with intent to commit rape on the person of Lettue Blood Corey Co-rey harged Jennings with unlawfully and corruptly dissuading the saRI Let tue Blood not to appear before the court On June 24 a warrant of arrest was issued and and the defendant taken tak-en into custody A jury trial was had on July 22 the jurors being E D Harrison foreman J C Wahlen G W Adams M L Swlneyard and E H Lewis The defendant was found guilty On July 26 defendaril was sentenced sen-tenced to pay a fine of ill and the costs 58 On July 27 125 was paid into court by the defendant on August Au-gust 25 another payment of 25 was made and later a third payment of 65 was received Ten dollars of the fine was remitted by the court and there the record ends For the foregoing is a record The facts therein stated were taken by me fsm a certified copy of the proceedIngs proceed-ings had in the case before Commissioner Commis-sioner Goodwins court which is duly attested and is a part of Mr Jennings Jen-nings career which the Advocate fails to mention THE ATTACK A BOOMERANG But McDaniels popularity has not been dimmed by the attacks made upon him This evening A J Weber prefaced his speech in this town by I alluding to the unjust warfare made upon McDaniel and brought down the house by saying hI do not I know Jennings and I do not care to if half what I hear about him is true Every pointed allusion to Jennings was approvingly received by the audience and their enjoyment was added to by the fact that not five minutes before Weber began his speech Jennings was delivering a lecture on the Australian ballot With the exception of the sample ol dirty polities related thq people of Sevier arc peacefully conducting the I campaign John Meteer is the McKinley Mc-Kinley kingpin and is earning a consulate con-sulate if the Canton cooperator is successful The registration of the county is asf reported by the Democratic Demo-cratic county chairman over 2700 and the vote will be it is estimated about 2300 RIchfield has 3S1 registered voters vot-ers Monroe 404 Joseph 261 JSlsinore 270 Central 7G Annabelle 129 Glen Gen wood 179 Vermilion 88 Aurora 123 Redmond 151 Salina 33G and Burr vie 85 A DUTY WELL PERFORMED The Sevier appointments closed the southern campaign of Messrs Weber and King Their task was an arduous ardu-ous one but they engaged in it with an enthusiasm which should earn for them the plaudits of all earnest advocates advo-cates of the silver cause Their work will live after them and will be recorded re-corded in the increased majorities in the silver counties and in the bringing into the Bryan column counties claimed by the McKinleyites a safe for the single cold standard cause Like his brother Hon W H King Sam A King is a candidate for office He is the nominee of the Democratic party of Utah county for the office of county attorney but In response to the call of the state committee he like a true soldier left his home fight to the care of his friends and invaded the southern south-ern wilderness He has returned from it with a consciousness of having per formed his duty well and faithfully On Weber the cyclone orator only words of praise can also be bestowed He is the most aggressive political speaker in Utah and has as many con erts to his credit as has any revival 11st who ever preached on Webers na live heath in Iowa Next Monday even evtn Ing he will give the people of Park City rn opportunity to judge for themselves Just how eloquent he is After a care Afer ful survey of the situation Weber has come to the conclusion that Kings ma jority over Holbrook will be 5000 that the next legislature will be Democratic fhd that the entire Democratic legislat lyo and county tickets of his home 1 Wt < i MA county Weber will be elected by handsome majorities majortes a
