Show MAJOR BRADLEY DEAD The Veteran Passes Away After Af-ter a Lingering Illness OUTLINE OF HIS CAREER A SOLDIER OF DISTINCTION WHO i LED A CHRISTIAN LIFE I I Funeral Tomorrow From the Con Krcsratioiial Church Under the J i Auspices of the G A 11Mrs j Jeiinette but Gallacher Dies I Suddenly at Logan Mrs Runsohouj Mother of the RansaJiolt Brothers Also Passes Away tMajor James F Bradley a well known citizen of this city died at his home yesterday morning at 4 oclock of paresis after a lingering illness The deceased was born on October 25 1S19 at New Haven Conn He lived in his native city attending school and taking an active part in Sunday school work in connection with I the Baptist church until he had attained at-tained the age of 23 when he moved to Worcester Mass He remained at Worcester two years and then went to Rutland the same state and thence in 1854 to Minnesota where he resided until the war broke out In Minnesota I he was admitted to the bar and practiced prac-ticed law there until September 1862 when he joined the Eighth Minnesota volunteers and went with his regiment to Fort Ripley Minn and took an active and honorable part in suppressing suppres-sing the Sioux Indian outbreak After peace was restored with the I Sioux he was transferred to the One Hundred and Second regiment regular United States troops colored and was promoted to the captaincy He greatly distinguished himself in the war and at its close his regiment was for ax time retained as part of the standing army and stationed at Port Royal In 1866 he was breveted major by President Johnson for meritorious conduct After leaving the army he went to Chicago and engaged in the insurance business remaining there until the big fire of 1871 when he was completely burnt out and then came to Salt Lake and remained here until his death While in this city his name was connected con-nected with a number of mining schemes of more or less note He possessed pos-sessed literary and newspaper talent and was connected with several mining min-ing publications at one time was editor edi-tor of the Daily Chronicle and later associate editor of the Evening Times He was a forceful writer and his editorials edi-torials commanded attention wherever read In politics he was an ardent Republican and when the division on party lines took place he was among the first to leave the Liberal party and join with the divisionists on the Re piibllnan side Major Bradley married Miss Catherine Cath-erine A Estabrook in 1846 at Rutland iMass and had five children three boys and two girls all of whom are dead He joined the Congregational church in this city and throughout his worker whole life was eminent as a Christian He leaves behind a host of friends to mourn the loss of the kindly old face and the pleasant greeting I The funeral services will be held tomorrow at 3 oclock from the Congregational Con-gregational church jbr Iliff and Dr McNiece will officiate in the absence of Rev Clarence Brbwn who is in the east The G A ft of which the deceased was a member will have charge of the ceremony and military exercises will be held The coffin of the major will be draped with the American flagOld Glory which he loved so well Death of Mr Gallnclier Word was received from Logan last night announcing the sudden death at that place of Mrs JeaViette Izatt Gal lacher heart disease being the cause Mrs Gallacher was CO years of age a native of Glasgow Scotland and I came to Salt Lake in 1S70 She lived I here until recently when she removed to Log n Deceased was the mother of J 1 Gallacher the trunk manufacturer I city manufac-turer and Mr John Gallacher of this |
