Show EASURY RECEIPTS NO IMPROVEMENT SO FAR OVER LAST MONTH A Spirit or Confidence and Security However Pervades the Treasury Department UnongH Money to Meet All Ordinary Demands Washington June 16The treasury receipts for customs and internal revenue rev-enue so far during the month of June gbow no improvement over last month while the disbursements remain practically prac-tically the same The receipts from sugar importations are surprisingly lo a1 d the expected large increase from whisky withdrawals has not materialized ma-terialized For the first half of the present month the receipts from customs cus-toms amount to 6224723 and from internal revenue 15197033 maing the total receipts from customs for the eleven and a half months of the fiscal year 146813087 and from internal revenue ources 136954163 During the last five months the receipts from customs have been as follows January 17361916 February 13 TSG91 March 14929729 April 1 186 May 12474515 June estl tI ed 13003000 F uring the same months the re l rnm from internal revenue scurces liave been a follows January 9034964 February SS60 046 March 9854977 April 10648880 May 10734033 June estimated 11 estmated 1 000000 making the total receipts for the year from customs 153618862 and from internal revenue 142757077 The present deficit of 548400950 however Is likely to be reduced by cutting off expenditures about 5000000 for the full fiscal year Notwithstanding this showing for the years operations there is no expectation from any source of an extra session of Congress ot another bond issue tefore I the regu lar meeting in December Today the gold reserve amounts to about 99 J 500000 with n available cash balance fr nearly 154000000 which is regarded < ample 1s to meet all ordinary de 15spirt of confidence and security j S jervades the treasury depart A this time Is largely due t the in the last bond contract obi I j ligating the syndicate to protect the gold in the treasury from withdrawals I I for export The ability of the syndicate I syndi-cate to carry out this provision has I been amply demonstrated during the last several months when the rate of exchange has been at times ruled far above the export point This obligation I obliga-tion cannot be discharged until October Oc-tober 1 next At the present time the syndicate owes the government about 7500000 on its contract and while the entire issue of bonds has been taken in London Lon-don deliveries will be made only as fast as gold is deposited I |
