Show A MAXS1 FAITH As Revealed by His Countenance to the Preacher A West Side Methodist minister said to a reporter Do you know I can almost always tell with what denomination a person is connected by studying his face I cant explain it except partially but the fact that it is much more difficult and sometimes impossible to distinguish be i f < tween a Presbyterian and Congregation alist explains the matter In part You see it is on the same principl as ability to tell a man of good habits from a dissipated dis-sipated person The effect of their lives show so plainly in their every feature that even the unpracticed eye can read their lives With us ministers we are so constantly constant-ly given occasion to study character that we gven distinguish the variations between these extremes and these variations are brought about by the various creeds and the resulting lives of those who choose them A man came to my church last Sunday whom I ha occasion to notice particularly and after the service I told him he was a Methodist He said How did you know I could not tell him anymore any-more than I have told you but I was right He was a church member but not a Methodist Of course a person who had only recently joined the Methodist or any other church I could not distinguish but those who have been brought up under un-der certain influences all or a large portion por-tion of their lives do certainly show it Those persons whose creeds are very similar sim-ilar in being largely of rites and ceremonies ceremo-nies are most plainly distinguishable from those whose religion is their lives Among this latter class I place the Methodists Meth-odists Rochester Democrat and Chronicle Chroni-cle |
