Show The past week was a fairly good one among the fraternal orders The meetings were well attended and a fair amount of business of interest was transacted The summer season however how-ever is now fairly entered upon and it may be expected that business will not be as active as usual atleast for a time The Masons will probably take a recess for two months and the other ordersalthough not formally adjourning adjourn-ing will not do a great deal of work IOOF The Odd Fellows were active during the week The subordinate lodges held their ordinary meetings which were all interesting and well attended Degree De-gree work was done m most of the lodges and in all applications were received from parties wishing to join the ranks The higher branches of the order the encampments and the cantons are doing good work and keeping up their end satisfactorily The Rebekahs are active as usual and doing works of charity with a willing hand The current number of the Utah Odd Fellow is at hand and contains interesting inter-esting news of the order far and wide as well as valuable information of the doings of the lodges in this jurisdiction jurisdic-tion It has an interesting description of the Philadelphia Odd Fellows temple tem-ple recently dedicated which is reproduced re-produced as follows The temple is a magnificent monument monu-ment to the energy and enterprise of the great order it represents It is located lo-cated at Broad and Cherry streets and is not only one of the finest buildings in the country but unIque in many features pertaining exclusively to secret se-cret society work The building itself constructed of yellow brick with terra cotta trimmings Is a beautiful thing to look upon being architecturally in the style known as Italian renaissance and having a frontage of 120 feet on Broad street and a depth of 170 feet A peculiarity in the scheme of ornamentation orna-mentation is the cornice that tops the ten stories to which the building rises This cornice projects five feet on the front walls Entrance is finished in Mycenian marble and has a height of twentyeight feet The auditorium is ninety by seventy feet and forty feet high and seats 1200 people The whole building Is complete in every detail with lodge rooms encampment halls banquet rooms all finished in marble There are fifteen lodge rooms on five upper floors The building cost 1000000 A feature fea-ture of the dedication was a grand parade Grand Sire Stebbins made the principal address Knights of Pythias The Knights of Pythias within this domain have been very active during the past week The eleventh annual session of the Grand lodge convenes I tomorrow at Provo and will be one of I the most important conventions ever held Many new laws rules and regulations regu-lations are to be formulated for the government of the subordinate lodges Prize drills will be held during the week by several divisions of the uniform uni-form rank The First Regiment band of Colorado Uniform Rank K of P will be in attendance and enliven the convention with sweet music At the close of thesession Thursday afternoon the whole party will go by special train to Eureka and will arrive in this city Friday morning On Friday June 21 the Colorado Pythians will be entertained by the Salt Lakers The main feature will be a drive over the city visiting places of interest On Saturday the 22d an excursion of tremendous magnitude will be given to Saltair In the afternoon a grand concert will be given by the Colorado I Pythian band twentysix men This outing will be the greatest event of the season On Sunday the 23d will be observed the Knights of Pythias memorial Ity The Knights of Pythias of Utah and sojourning brothers will march headed by the Uniform Rank band and uni form divisions to ittount oiivet ana Fort Douglas cemeteries where short services will be held and the graves of loved ones gone before will be strewn with sweet flowers natures richest wealth On Monday by special invitation tl visiting knights will be the guests ot the Caledonian society at Calders park This will be the day of days winding up in the evening with a grand concert and ball at Christensens hall when it Is expected that fully I five hundred gallant knights and their sweethearts will trip the light fantastic to the music of Colorados finest band In Calanthe lodge last week A S Zimmerman was instructed in the lesson of esquire OI E Cummings E A Hartenstein and A S Zimmerman were elevated to the rank of knight In Myrtle No 1 William Anderson learned the lesson of esquire Monitor No 11 initiated C F Ferguson Fer-guson into the rank of page Rocky Mountain No 3 held a splen did meeting and transacted considerable consider-able important business On Friday evening Zion No 12 conferred con-ferred the rank of page upon Frank Boyles The meeting was one of interest inter-est and profit The principles of Pythianism lead to a higher state of living and makes the world brighter and better
