Show I TH CHURCHES YESTERDAY DISCOURSE AT ST 3IAI KS CATHEDRAL CATHE-DRAL ix TiE MORNING Baccalaureate Sermon By Ilev D Ii Warren of thc Salt Lake College Services at the Tabernacle i The sermon at St Marks yesterday was founded on Jeremiah xii 5 reading read-ing as follows If thou hast run with the footmen and they have wearied thee then how I I canst thou contend with horses And if in the land of peace wherein thou I trustedst they neared thee then how I wilt thou do in the swelling of Jordan Jor-dan I danThis is an age of progress and impatience im-patience Discovery of quick means i of communication and rapid development 1 develop-ment of material resources has led to I an Idea that fortunes can come quickly quick-ly and has made men believe their I road should be made easy with no I cares and crosses to prove burdensome burden-some This was much the case with I Jeremiah who wanted the enemies of i God smitten down at once in order that i the cause of the gospel might triumph I But trials and troubles m this world are necessary in order that we may become perfect The man is sad who i has so much that his slightest wish i may be gratified He is much better off who has been compelled to say at times I would like to have that but I cannot afford it Trials are always with us The child has them They may appear trivial to we who are older but hey are not so to the child In after life troubles more serious come upon us until in old age they seem heaped so they can hardly bb borne The child does not like to be crossed yet its mind must be turned so that in after life he will be able to do rightly We do not ttf to be thwarted and yet we must learn to bear our slight ills in order that we may not be overcome by those ihlch are harder to bear I we are so impatient im-patient at trifles how shall we face the swelling of the Jordan |
