Show jJIRISHAMERICAN MILITARY UNION irA J3 A Special Convention Was Held in New York Yesterday SIX HUNDRED PRESENT PROPOSITION TO COXSOLLDATE VARIOUS ORGANIZATIONS Resolved That the GllIant Patriots T of Cuba Deserve the Sympathy I II and Support of All LlbertyLov insr People Consrrcss to He Called Vpoii to Recognize the Cubans as Belligerents Held Behind Closed I Doors j I I I I New York June 16A special convention II vention of the Irish American Military Mili-tary union was held in this city today i 1 to-day About COO delegates were present I pres-ent from various sections of the country coun-try The meeting was called for the purpose of adopting measures for the I affiliation of all IrishAmerican military mili-tary organizations with the union in I view of probable exigencies in connection connec-tion with tne question of Irelands independence in-dependence and also to consider the advisability of having an encampment encamp-ment next year for the assemblage oft of-t the IrishAmerican troops from the various states The convention was called to order by Commanderin 7 Chief Kelly after which the credentials cre-dentials of the delegate were examined ex-amined Many national s E officers were present I I The following were appointed a tt r committee on resolutions Colonel Ii Henry Boylan Major C OConner I McLaughlin Major George E Mc Quaid Colonel James B Murphy and Captain T F ORourke t The following resolutions were presented e pre-sented and adopted t Whereas The time has arrived when Irishmen must unite and prepare pre-pare for a grand armed struggle for the Independence of their country Resolved That we the delegates of the IrishAmerican Military union inc in-c iivention assembled hereby invite all IrishAmerican military organizations organiza-tions in the United States to affiliate with thisunion to the end that having hav-ing one purpose in view we may be in a position to take concerted action at all times and may establish such a II brotherhood of affection as will in its strength be capable of effective work towards securing Irelands independence in-dependence That we furthermore invite in-vite such organizations to appear 1 with us in camping in Bridgeport Conn in the summer of 18S6 when there will be opportunity for military evolutions on a grand scale It was also agreed that French t Polish and Hungarian military bodies i in sympathy with the Irish movement t move-ment be permitted to come into the i union The following resolutions were adopted with loud applause Resolved That we the delegates of the IrishAmerican Military union In convention assembled do hereby tender the gallant patriots of Cuba our heartiest wishes for the triumph J of their cause That in our opinion they deserve the sympathy and support of all libertyloving people that we call upon Congress to take steps immediately immedi-ately upon its convening to extend to the Cubans recognition as belligerents belliger-ents 6 The convention which was held Behind I Be-hind closed doors then adjourned i liter live hours deliberation I gate at large to the convention from that state Mr Evans says he thinks the convention con-vention will be the largest and most en thusiatio that has yet been held and he scouts the idea that there will be a fight over free coinage Mr Evans has just returned from the east Being asked what he thought of the Republican presi dential question he said Minnesota had a candidato In the person of Senator Cushing K Davis and while he was not a leader in the race Minnesota Repub licans hope matters will so shape themselves them-selves before next year as to make his nomination possible In regard to the I question whom he considered the strong I Ja candidate in the l race at present Mr fleir1ea1r Evans said Mr McKinley is by all odds I the strongest candidate He has been in 1 the race longest His character and record are such that ho will stand the test no matter how long he has to remain in the contest before the convention is held He said Reed Harrison and Allison b1 i were all t and g strong able men and each was positive of a considerable following II I I |
