committees are kept in j 3 stale of almost perpetual movement 1 Yesterday the committee on arrangements i arrange-ments F H Auerbach chairman held i anotner council in the chamber of commerce com-merce rooms and got what work remains re-mains to be completed well underway under-way t The committeemen were greatly perturbed I per-turbed over the inference that Senators Sena-tors Teller and Wolcott would not be I present at the convention This apprehension I ap-prehension was caused by an Associated i Associ-ated Press report statingthat the two j senators wouid attend the meet i ing of the Republican League club I which will hold forth at Cleveland 0 j on the 14th Inst Inorder to use every I inducement to have them take part in j I the conference the telegram below was drafted and sent to each of the distinguished distin-guished silver leaders We learned with deep regret that you i I have expressed the determination not I to be present as delegate at the sil i i ver convention to convene in this city on May 15 I Thegreat services you have rendered i in the cause make you one of the indispensable in-dispensable factors in any great convention con-vention held for the purpose of protect ing I This convention must be representative repre-sentative of the people of the western empire and to be so must be participated partici-pated in by the leaders of silver sentl ments I this will be directed di-rected to some of the best known and influential silver leaders Among the number the following will be conspicuous conspicu-ous John F Hopkins exmayor of Chicago William J Bryan of Nebraska Nebras-ka William H Harvey editor of Coin Don Cameron Richard Bland J C Sibley General A J Warner U S i Senator Blackburn Kentucky the editor edi-tor of InterOcean Chicago Mr St John of New York Wharton Barker of Philadelphia Editor of the New 1 York Recorder George G Vest of Sidyera Mo Editor Atlanta Constitution Consti-tution and numerous other equally noted free silver advocates The committee then proceeded to I wade through other departments of I the preparatory work I has been arranged I ar-ranged to decorate the main thoroughfares thor-oughfares in striking and picturesque I style A huge banner with patriotic I inscriptions will float between the Knutsford and the Brooks Arcade and I other highways will be spanned with equal profusion Bunting flags and I banners will be used galore and altogether I al-together a gallant showing will be made The tabernacle too will not be I forgotten in the general displaj A number of appropriate emblems will I be exhibited and the stars and stripes will flpat from the lofty dome to the I sides of the mammoth hall and will undoubtedly make a rare and striking I effect i The committee is now able to state I definitely that one of the renowned i concerts by the Tabernacle choir will j I be the event for Thursday evening The committeemen flatter themselves j that this feature Will make a big hit with the delegates and the choir can of course be looked to for some thoroughly thor-oughly artistic work Prof Daynes and Prof Radcliffe will alternate at the organ and can be depended upon to fully bring out its majestic harmonies The arrangement committee is aranSement commIteeis now busily at work preparing to send out invitations to the great banquet tc come off on Friday night at the I Knutsford The invitations will per j baps number about 300 and Utahs I noted ones are expected to be out in 1 force at the festivities The finance committee of which S Richard Mackintoshes chairman report re-port that they have been successful in raising 1000 for the coming event This fund will apparently be wiped clean by the arrangement committee who expect to find it rather close fitting fit-ting to keep within the limits of this allowance alowance S The preparations for the silver conference con-ference are now about crystallized and the committeemen will have for the future only minor details to handle They are fully satisfied with what has been done thus far and have rosy hopes for the successful carrying out of their plans That the silver convention conven-tion will be J a signal success Is considered con-sidered a foregone conclusion Tim meeting of this convention it Is believed be-lieved will be looked back upon in the future as a red let l day in the history of Utah and the
