Show I TWO SOLDIERS TWO HORSES I Two Valuable Animal Stolen at Fort Douglas I Assistant Surgeon Polheimus of Fort Douglas who is at present at Fort Du ciiesne lost two fine horses yesterday I morning They were taken from the stable at Fort Douglas about 1 oclock it m br B0mo unknown parties When the family arose yesterday morning they were informed by the hired man that their best horses were missing some one having succeeded in quictv enacting an entrance to the stable during the night The sentry on No6 heard no noise of any kind suf ficient to attract his attention while on duty on his post which extends along the front of Dr Polheimus residence and near the commanding officers quarters The corral sergeant got up at the usual hour yesterday morning and found two saddles missing from the rack where they are usually to be found A thorough search failed to produce the saddles and It Is supposed the same parties who took the horses knew the location of the saddles I sad-dles and concluded not to ride > bareback In making their escape The sentry who walkS No 4 has a rather long beat and did not notice anything unusual going on during his tour of duty The horses are valued at 300 The fact that the location of thesaddles must have been well known to the parties points strongly lit the direction di-rection of two soldiers who deserted the fort the name night about the time the horses are supposed to have been taken They have not yet been located Adjutant Adju-tant George has telegraphed to all the railroad stations in this part of Utah and the civil officers have been instructed to use every possible means in their power to capture the thieves toTf two soldiers who deserted from the Sixteenth infantry are boll natives of Canada and It Is generally suppdsed that they will try to reach ihe British line as quickly as possible are the guilty parties The officers have a thorough description of the men suspected ard It will be pretty hard for them to escape |
