WILLIAM H MAUGHAN Of TVellsvIlle Cache county Democrat was born May 7 3S34 in Cumberland county England During his early boy hood he came with his parents to America Am-erica settling first in Ohio und afterward after-ward in Wisconsin In 1S30 the family came to Utah and were among the first settlers in Tooele city In 1STG in company com-pany with six others he entered Cache valley as its pioneers The place chosen as a location for their new homes was in the southwestern corner of the valley and in those day of Indian warfare was called Maushans Fort A flourishing settlement sprung up and its name was changed to Well < vm Finally XW tI ville assumed municipal dignity and Mr Maughan was elected mayor an office he held for ten years He has served his i constituents in the office of county selectman select-man for several terms and was once before be-fore chosen a member of a convention to draft a state constitution After nearly 11 I ilrrrt i t l + l I V II MATJGIIAX I forty years residence in Cache county Mr Maughan may be said to be one of the oldest residenters IJe has bean a I I farmer all his life is a good businessman business-man and full of integrity I I
