| Show SAMUEL H HILL Of the firm of Cunnington Co of Salt Lake city elected as a Republican from the Second precinct was born in Canada 1840 but his parents came to the United States eighteen months later His early life was spent In Illinois and Iowa and in 1851 he came to Utah In 1855 he assisted assist-ed in the establishment of the Brigham Young express line from Fort Leaven worth to Salt Lake In 1862 Mr Hill enlisted en-listed as a volunteer in the United States army and was a member of Captain Lot Smiths company of cavalry for the protection pro-tection of the overland stage and telegraph tele-graph lines In 1863 Mr Hill visited Europe Eu-rope returning to Utah In 1SS5 He then Went to Arizona where he remained for two years and upon his return he was engaged on the Brigham Young construction construc-tion contract on the Union Pacific railway rail-Way Upon the completion of dls work he became associated with the Utah I I ra4 l ft u l7 1t n 941 s H iin1 Central railway in the position of purchasing pur-chasing agent and Infer was chosen paymaster pay-master He held these positions until the consolidation of the several lines and in 1SOO after a tour of Europe and Old Mexico he Quit railroading and became associated with the firm of Cunningtcn Co of this city Mr Hill was a member mem-ber of the first Republican committee of Salt Lake and is at present a member of the Salt Lake Republican county committee com-mittee |
