Show FORGERS AEKESTED SHERIFFS OFFICE CAPTURES THE PARTNERS OF PKXMAX AVALKEIV Apprehended with Forgeries in Their PosaeHiioii Which Oujjlit lo Convict Them Xent Piece olAVorlr The sheriffs office made a srand haul on Second South street last night by arresting resting two confederates of J H Walker the forger wiho are badly wanted in checks Pocatello Idaho for passing bo us That they are partners of Walker who is evidently the kingpin of the gag is evident from the fact tat checks forget in Idaho and Salt Lake are l in the same handwriting1 except a to endorsements The document purporting to have the signature of Sheriff Hardy is in the same hand and style a a similar one found on the person of one of the men arrested last nigjht The arrests wee made on a warrar issued by Judge McNally charging the twain with forgery which warrant was sworn out at the request of Deputy Sheriff MeDaniels of Pocxtello < who has PoateIo been train them for several days The paiir pave thpir mIme a Dougl Hughey and Tom Eartlett Aimorvg the papers found in their possession was a check on the Idaho National bank of Pocatello Po-catello purporting to foe drawn by John H Blancharrl an favcr of Garrett Sullivan Sulli-van for 4720 The chlrography on thl < check was identical with the forgery of Sheriff Hardvs and the endorsements on the back bcre a striking resemblance An additional fEature worthy of note is that both checks are number 17 the crooks evklentlv belpvinq that 1 is a lucky number The check drawn on the Idaho bank ras dated January 12 while that of the Salt Lake forgery is January 14 I is believed that the three are work incr together and that Walker dees the Jim the Penman part while the others paps the worthless bits updn unsuspeet ing people In tha CPSP of Hardy however Taker dir his own collecting Whv the lastnamed pair came here 1S a sort of mystery U1Ies they failed to receive any communication from Walke regarding his arrest A prelimiharv hearing ill be had today to-day but in all probability the last two named will be returned to Pocatello for trial unless some new cases develop The capture of the tw o men was indeed a clever piece of work and the officers deserve a great deal of credit |
