Show Wnrde and James Both Warde and James are so well remembered re-membered here that no one need be reminded re-minded of their excellence in the pieces they have hitherto played together Ai their last visit they rendered The Lions Mouth Julius Caesar Francesca da riimini and Damon and Pythias This time they give us with some of the others Othello and Henry TV and it is interesting to know what the newspapers news-papers had to say of the two tragedians in these plays The New Orleans Tlmes Democralt speaking of Othello as rendered by them says Fine stage settings beautiful scenery correct interpretation of the spirit of the several parts and masterly delineation of the feelings and passions portiayed added proof to the reputation of the two stars and the quality of the support The performance was a test especially of Mr I Warde appearing as he dIt J in a role which made Edwin Boothe famous That the test was more than satisfactory was evidenced by a curtain call for hImself and Mr James at the close of the third I act Mr Warde was everly masterful throughout The subtle play of expression that is so great a part of his character i was ever ready to assist the reading and intonation and the feeling mingled halte and disgust that he raised in the minds of the audience and the occasional ex presfion thereof from the upper part of the house were the sinc2rcst tributes to his artistic strength As for Mr James his physiognomy and the intelligence that showed through the part combined with his stature and proportions enabled him to give a well nigh ideal portrayal of the purely physical part of his character in the title role and his powertul and artistically modulated voice stood him in good stead His expression ex-pression and manner were admirable The honors of the performers were well divided between the stars The sale of seats commences at the box office tomorrow |
