MANY RARE SPECIMENS Return From aCruis Oil the Coast of Ecuador San Pedro Cal Aug 23The schooner Julia E Whalen Captain W P Noyes has arrived from a cruise to the Galapagos islands west of Ecuador The vessel had not touched at any mainland port since she sailed from San Francisco Ocober 10 last She carried members of a scientific expedi lion sent by Stanford university under the patronage of Timothy flopkmns of San Francisco The expedition visited the unexplored Islands of Culpepper 3Venmen and Marborougli and those but little ones Clippenton arid cocos besides others of the Galapagos group A very fine collection of specimens including llrds animals and fishes was obtained Aboard the vessel were eighteen live iafld tortoises taken from Duncan and Albemarle islands some of them weighing 400 pounds She also brought 220 fur seals skins and 2300 skins of hair seals
