| Show BRYAN AND THE SILVER ISSUE Our morning contemporary is at least impartial in dIscrediting news re jrts for it contradIcts its own local and telegraph service quite as often as it doe that of other newspapers Yesterday Yes-terday it asserted and undertook to prove that William J Bryan has given a direct notice that while not taking back anything said in lG the Democratic Demo-cratic fight In 1900 will be on important import-ant new issues which have arisen and that while making the fight on these Issues it is not necessary to apologize for the fight of 1896 That was an editorial opinion In its report of the Nebraska state convention conven-tion printed on the first page of the same issue appeared the following Mr Bryan dictated the platform of the Democratic convention This document docu-ment declared uncompromisingly for free coinage of silver at the ratio of 16 to I and indorses bodily the Chicago platform of 1896 Two other conventions were held in Omaha at the same time The telegraphic tele-graphic report which was printed In the local Republican organ said Mr Bran addressed all three conventions and was emphatic in his denunciation of the administrations pOlicy In the Philippines He also spoke vigorously in support of the free coinage of silver declaring it to be the main issue now before the public He denounced trusts in strong terms and criticized thead m1nlstratlon for doing nothing to regulate regu-late them For the sake of appearances our neighbor should not contradict its own news service But as a matter of economy econ-omy It would better do that than attempt at-tempt to discredit the news service of others |
