Show FAIRBANKS S D Believes That Danger of Collision In Alaska Has Been Averted Indianapolis Oct 21 United States Senator Fairbanks was much interested this morning iiu a statement > from Washington that a temporary Alaskan boundary line had been agreed upon thus for the time disposing of a possibility pos-sibility of serious trouble over the dispute dis-pute Asked what effect the temporary tempo-rary boundary line would hav9 the senator said The temporary boundary line agreed upon is important as it defines forthe time being the rights of the United States and Great Britain in the portion por-tion of territory where there has been for some time serious danger of collisions colli-sions between the citizens of the United States and the subjects of Great Britain The discovery of gold In the Porcupine Por-cupine district within the last year within the disputed zone has caused considerable apprehension it being feared that a collision might occur between be-tween the citizens and subjects of the respective countries Under the modus vivendi just adopted the line between the countries is defined so that all possibility of any serious friction will be removed pending pend-ing the final settlement of the permanent perma-nent bound The present line is subject sub-ject of course to the ultimate determination determi-nation of the boundary As to what will be the outcome Mr Fairbanks did not express himself As things have been Re said nobody no-body who had a claim was sure of hia footinghe did not know whether he was on British soil or within the domain do-main of the United States We have had many reports of fights and serious crimes have been committed I think now all this will be stopped I |
