Show COMMISSIN fOR F GBt fUNSTO MADE A BRIGADIER GENERAL OF VOLUNTEERS i jQSLjJpointment Made On Merit and the Fighting Kansan Has Decided to Accept Kansas City Mo Oct 2IA Star snecial from San Francisco says General Gen-eral Frederick Fuuston today received I a telegram from the war department offering him a brigadiers command if he would return to the Philippines after af-ter his former regiment the Twentieth Kansas is mustered out General Fun ston accepted the offer Washington Oct Following a conference between the president and Secretary Root the latter telegraphed to General Frederick Funston the tender ten-der of a brigadier generalship in the newly formed volunteer service Up to the time the war department closed today General FUnstons reply had not been received bv Adjutant General I Corbin but the officials look upon the press dispatch announcing General Funstons purpose of accepting as settling set-tling the fact that he will be back in I the service at an early date The selection of General Funston was made on merit after Secretary Root had submitted to the president a list officers with their record of service serv-ice This list had been carefully gone over and the essential features of recent re-cent service in the field noted The president wa evidently impressed im-pressed with the official chronicle of General Funstons work in the Philippines I I Philip-pines which follows closely the press I dispatches of his gallant deeds during General MacArthurs first advance to the north and his name was speedily I selected from the list I |
