Show IPARDONK lOH fOUR II I IIi I-Ii t il Quartette of Offenders Released By il the Board t C I REFORMATION BEAN 1 I I BURGHAR WHO WAS SENT UP i 5 FOR FIVE YEARS Frank Fair of Ogden Was Also Ordered Or-dered Released Application of Williams Serving a life Sentence for Hurder Was Continued James Brown Denied a Pardon Four men were made happy by tho board of pardons yesterday They were liberated 3nd will once moro breathes pure and unconfined air Two of them were released from the penitentiary and two from the county Jail of Utah countr These four were Clarence E Bean cf Salt Lake Frank Farr of Ogden and Jake Wilson and Charles M Potter of Payson Bean was sentenced to five years on Sept 10 1S97 by Judge Nor rell on the charge of burglary His case has been before the board for some time He was pardoned on account ac-count of evidences of his reformation as shown by his influence for good on other prisoners and because lie has avery a-very good position offered to him on his release and on account of the recommendation recom-mendation of the judge who tried him and the attorney who prosecuted him Bean was released yesterday afternoon Frank Parrs Case Frank Farr was sentenced May 31 183 > > at Ogden to one year for burglary bur-glary Judge Rolapp and County Attorney At-torney George Halverson recommended his pardon His youth and former good character were considered Charles M Potter and fake Wilson were sentenced June 30 last for petit larceny by Justice Thomas H Wilson to five months in the Utah county jail The youth of the prisoners and the fact that this was their first offense were the things which Influenced the i board as well as the recommendations of the justice and prosecuting attorney Jacob Evans In the case of Samuel Mulberry sentenced sen-tenced at Provo Feb 20 1891 to twenty years for murder in the second degree the application for a rehearing was granted The case of Samuel Matthews sentenced sen-tenced to ten years for assault with intent In-tent to commit rape on Dec 281S9S at Coalvllle was continued one month The case of George F Kelting sentenced sen-tenced on April 12 1893 at Salt Lake to one year on the charge of assault with a deadly weapon was continued one month No Pardon for Brown The application of James L Brown for a pardon was denied He WaS convicted con-victed of murder in the second degree on April 20 1891 and sentenced to twenty years Tho application of Thomas Lacey who was sentenced to seven years on Nov 10 1S96 at Ogden for burglary was continued till the next session of the board 5 William A Teatgue was sentenced in Sept 2 1S9G at Tooele to seven years for grand larceny His application for a rehearing was granted He was once denied a pardon Moses Jones who vas sentenced at Provo Jn June last to eighteen months for fornication had his pardon denied The application of Francis Hagestead for a pardon was denied He was sentenced sen-tenced to sixteen years at Beaver on Nov 16 18S5 on the charge of murder in the second degree The ease of George Wanless sentenced sen-tenced to three years Feb 2 at Provo for assault with intent to commit rape was continued till the next session of the board The application of George M Leonard Leon-ard for a pardon was denied Leonard was sentenced March 3 last to one year at Castle Dale for burglary The application of James W Merrill jr for a pardon was denied He was sentenced on Sept 7 at Ogden to one year on the charge of burglary The case of Thomas Williams went over again He is confined under a life sentence for the murder of Joe Hutch ins near Silver City in February 1SS3 S P Armstrong his attorney moved for a continuance in order to examine protests which have been filed with the board |
