| Show Henry Clews on the Outlook Henry Clews in a recent letter to THE HERALD says With assured plenty at home and scarcity abroad the farming classes of the United States have before them a period of prosperity to which they have long been strangers Not only the railroads and business interests generally gener-ally will benefit directly from large and paying crops but in another respect so far not fully appreciated will they receive advantage The farmers of the northwest have for years been overridden with debt and the discontent thus promoted has been at the bottom of all tha injurious currency and antirailroad agitations If the estimate esti-mate that our wheat corn oat and cotton crops will prove worth two thousand millions mil-lions of dollars and there is no reason to dount these figures it is safe to assert that hundreds of millions of farm mortgages will be paid off in part or full Lenders have had such unpleasant experiences with this sort of security that they will be glad to regain their money and borrowers will be equally eager to escape tha heavy interest Inter-est charges which swamped har earned savings Contentment will succeed discontent discon-tent among tho farmers I I |
