IN BLACK ATTIRE Wanamaker Compels His Saleswomen Sales-women to so Appear One Says They Will be Told What to Eat Anoth Says Some of the Girls Dressed too Gayly Special to THE HERALD Examiner Dispatch I PHILADELPHIA Oct 3All the saleswomen sales-women and cash girls in Wanamakers store reported for duty this morning in black attire This was the result of an order to that effect issued several days ago There was much feminine excitement and ndignation when the order was communi nicated to them and some of those who affected bright colors and jaunty styles declared de-clared that they would resign before they would don the sobro robe prescribed but they didnt After a while said one of them we will be ordered to eat certain things and leave others alone I dont ob ject j so much to wearing black in the store i but I do object to wearing i all the time and thats what we have to do now Heretofore i Here-tofore whenever our Sunday dresses began to look old we woro them in the store now wo cant do it unless we wear black all tho time Another brighteyed little saleswoman gave 1 hint ns to the cause of the order being I be-ing issued Im not bothered much about the order said she I always did dress in quiet colors but some of the girls have been dressing a little too gay wearlnz terribly ter-ribly striking colors and having their dresses out rather low Thats why the order was issued The girls are required it is said to buy the material for their black dresses at tho Wanamaker store but are the price allowed 1 discount of 50 per cent on
