| Show SETS HIMSELF BIGHT ExSenator TAnon writes a letter to an exchange in which he disposes of certain stories which would be scandalous if it were not for the humor which is mixed up in the malice which prompted their publication publica-tion Thus it will be remembered that it was printed far and wide when TABOR went to Washington to fill his thirty day Senatorial term that ho was in the habit of prancing through the sleeping coach encased en-cased in a nightshirt which cost several hundred dollars and that when ho reached the capital he invited some of his fellow Senators around to his room to inspect the robe In the letter referred to the man o f millions declares the best nightshirt I aver had cost about 3 This matter being nettled the exSenator proceeds to deny that he when lieutenantgovernor o f Colorado presided over the upper house o f the legislature in a pair of red plush clippers It is immaterial in the opinion o f the public whether the lieutenantgoverno wore slippers or miners boots but the gentleman has deemed the matter of sufficient suffi-cient importance to explain the situatio with emphssis and this he does in these words I never had a red slipper in mMe y m-Me After this positive declaration the man would be a base wretch who woul say anything more on the subject The most serious charge however that w ° ever saw in print regarding the miner statesman was that on a certain occasion in tho course of a public address he had expressed fear that in the event of certain things transpiring arnica would comb when as a matter of fact it was anarchy he he apprehended This was really reprehensible for it implied that Governor TABORS education had been neglected neg-lected and that he was not entirely qualified qual-ified to occupy the lofty positions he had hold We therefore are glad and the world will be glad also to learn from his own pen that he was slandered in this as in the nightshirt and plush slippers incidents His language is this As to the arnica saying I will say that I am a practical druggist and know full well the proper word to use in the instance in-stance referred to These points having all been decided in favor of the eiSenator it is to be hoped that TABOK will be permitted to live in peace with the newspaper fellers as he does with the rest of mankind |
