Is Sullivan Fit to be an Elk ISpeclalto Tier HERALD Examiner Dispatofel NEW YORK March 18The Newark lodge of Elks met last night to investigate the charges made against John L Sullivan which werelsaid by Exalted Ruler Quinlaa to unfit him for being an Elk Duncan Harrison his fellow actor in Honest Hearts and Willing Hands was present and had counsel Members of the order were in attendance from Boston Provid ernie New York andBrooklvn The inves tigation was conducted in secrecy iu the lodge room and the result was nor known to outsiders It is understood that Harrison defended Sullivan vigorously and asserted that all of the charges against him were either trivial or entirely false and that he had done nothing inconsistent with the obligations of an Elk A stenographer who is a member of the lodge took down the proceedings and the report will be sent throughout the order in a few day It was understood before the meeting last night that the questions were limited to six on each side
