Show MONDAY EVENING CLUB I American Humorists Discnssed at the Congregational Church The Evening with American Humorists Humor-ists gIven by the Monday Evening club at the First Congregational church last evening was a delightful one The programme opened with quotations from American humorists the members responding to roll call with the quotations I quo-tations Professor Webster followed with a biographical sketch of Petroleum Petro-leum Nasby D R Locke and some amusing selections from his works I Miss Carrie Thorn read in a charming charm-ing manner an original eulogy of James Whitcomb Riley and in an inimitable inimita-ble way gave several of his best poems Mr George Nye then read an able review of the works of the leading American humorists including Washington I Wash-ington Irving James R ssel Lowell Oliver Wendell Holmes Bob Burdette Artemus Ward Bret Hart Mrs Part ington Bill Nye Petroleum V Nassby Mark Twain Josh Billings and 11 Quad in his list of funny men Mr Nye also made a distinction between wit pointTHE and humor aptly illustrating his |
