| Show IOWA STATE BAND Fine Concert Given at the Western Depot Yesterday The platform of the Rio Grande Western Wes-tern depot was crowded from one end to the other at noon yesterday with people anxious to hear the concert by th Iow State Band The train arrived at 1230 and the musicians fiftyfour strong took their positions on the platform west of the depot and discoursed some of the finest music ever heard in this city The selections se-lections were The Inaugural March by Thiele La Belle Creole by Herman Her-man High School Cadets March by Sousa and Maid Marian from RobIn Rob-in Hood I is sufficient to state that this band will compare favorably with any organization of the kind in the country The instrumentation is as follows 1 oboe 2 E fat clarionats 1 B flat clarionets 3 saxaphones 1 flute 1 piccolo 6 cornets 1 baritone 1 euphonium eu-phonium 5 French horns 4 mom bones 4 tubas 2 snare drums and 1 bass drm The conductor is Prof Edward Ed-ward Phinney After playing for a half hour the members of the band followed by the cheers of a delighted audience and escorted by Mr W E Weihe Mr Parker and other members of the Musicians Union came up town I where they accepted the hospitality of the union The boys enjoyed themselves them-selves so much that sixteen missed the 215 train and could not leave till the 715 when they joined their confreres who awaited them at Ogden I is expected that the band will stop in the city on its return from the Midwinter cert Fair and will give a con |
