Show CLARENCE IS A FIZZLE He Draws less than a Dozen TVhito I Icrno cm Fills the House at fccofield SCOFIELD Utah Nov 2Tnero was a Liberal rally 1 held here on Monday last It was the greatest fizzle with which our town has ever beed afflicted so far as poli tics is concerned Long and loud had I been heralded that a powwow would beheld I be-held and the Liberal candidate for delegate to Congress would beg the people of Scofield to vote for him The evening of the meeting arrivedso did the delegate Eight oclock was to have been the hour of meeting but at that time there was only five people precent Presently the speaker of the evening banging on the arm of the liberal nominee for president of the town board entered the school house which was ignted by one dim lamp and less than half heated by a broken stove Evidently Mr Allen expected a full house so the small audience had a very dampening effect on him Conductor Morris and Judge Harkness noticed tho downcast expression of Mr Allen and they hied themselves to Liberal headquarters where they found a dozen or so ot the uoys playing pool or cards for the drinks and rousted them out to meeting After this very respectable showing those present expected ex-pected the performance to begin But not so After waiting for nearly an nour longer Operator Braffet became desperate and after apologizing first to the audience for the condition of the house and then to the speaker for the size of the audience called the meeting to order He said Lady there was only one of the fair sex present pres-ent and gentlemen I now introduce to you the Honorable C E Allen I It was plain to be seen that Mr Allen was disappointed Ho commenced by complaining com-plaining that the Democrats were follow lag him around wherever he went This seemed to relieve his pent up feelings Ho scorched the Republicans and the leaders of the Mormons and finished up by saying that the Democrats were just as bad During his speech he begged the voters of Sconeld to cast their ballots for him just to show to the people of this territory that there were Liberals in other places besides Salt Lake and Ogden LOOK AT THE CONTRAST On Tuesday night A D Gash of Provo held forth in the interests of Democracy Long before the hour of meeting every seat was occupied Fully one half of the audience were ladies And a happier look ng audience it would be hard to find Promptly at the advertised time the meeting was called to order by the prosi dent of the Democratic club Andrew Hood who in a neat although short speech introduced Mr Gash as the speaker of the evening I would be an Injustice in-justice to Mr Gash to attempt a synopsis of his very able arzument Ho held his audience spellbound most of the time He was frequently interrupted by applause When the names of Cleveland and Stevenson son were mentioned round after round of applause was given with a vim After Mr Gasha speech was finished campaign longs were sung the whole audience joining join-ing in the chorus The meeting closed by jiving three cheers and a tiger for Clove land and Stevenson Joseph L Rawlins and the straight Democratic ticket of tho orrHory and every county After the close if the meeting nearly all the male part of the audience became members of the Democratic club The general verdict is that this was the best political meeting ever held in this valley Democracy is taking deep root up here in the mountains JAKE Colonel 1eyton at Layton LATION Nov Laytons Democratically Democratic-ally last evening was the best one yet The Layton meeting house was not more than halt lar o enough to accommodate the people who turned out to listen to the expounding ex-pounding of Democratic principles The iaysville band and glee club Demo were on hand and furnished some very excellent music The speakers were Hon R G Home and Colonel W L P Peyton of I t I Ogden Mr Home first addressed the meeting on the subject of tariff showing I particularly how it affected the farmers Most of us in Layton are farmer and his remarks were well appreciated us they were well directed and forcibly delivered Mr Peyton is simply immense was the remarks of many Why they way in A J I which he handled the subject was astonish Infif For wit and solid substance in one and the same breath who can beat him 1 I Even the Republicans applaud him There1 are but a fow of the many remarks which might be quoted to show what was the prevailing sentiment of the meeting with regard to Mr Peyton Mr J M Barnes ot Kaysville was the next speaker and his subject was Church Influence and the Picturebook Mr Barnes expressed his views in a clear an forcible manner He was entirely opposed to the Picturebook and thought that Church Influence 1 wholly out of place in politics Each speaker was warmly applauded and all unite in saying that the meeting was a most enthusiastic one The Kaysville baud and Demscratic Gleo club deserve much praise for the efforts made by them for theirs was an important part and was well taken Taken all in all it was a grand rally and youll hear from us neAtTuesday Bijrht You Are HUNTINGTOK Utah Nov 4Enclosed you will find coupons with the
