Show manWHO WHO IS TATLOCK The Department of Justice Has Eound Out The 1 < D dTool from Iowa Wi Probably Da Appointed to Succeed Jut e Anderson HERALD BUREAU CORNER FIFTEENTH AND G STREETS WASHINGTON D C Nov 6 1892 E W Tatlock who recently spent some days in Washington has returned to Salt Lake His mission here was to make personal per-sonal application for the vacancy on the territorial supreme bench caused by Judge Anderaons retirement Mr Tatlock left for Salt Lak on Tuosdcy lst Afew hours prior to his departure be bad an audience with the attorneygeneral I dont know what Mr Tatlock said to the attorney attor-ney general but I do know that the later was favorably impressed with the Utah I lawyer He was speaking with me about Mr Tatlock the other day and he referred in complimentary terms to the applicants modest and gentlemanly bearing which he found 1 refreshing contrast to the loudmouthed loud-mouthed and selfassertive bearing of eo many of the claimants for office with whom he is brought into personal contact George W Bartch is with the exception of Mr Tatlock the only applicant from Salt Lake city The only other Utah applicants ap-plicants are James N Kimball and Abbott R Heyvvood of Ogden and W H Snolling of Logan There are a few other applicants cants mainly from Iowa but thpy aont count President Harrison believes in I home rule for the territories as P general I proposition and it io not likely he will go outside of Utah in the present instance Mr Bartch flies a number of letters from wellknown men indorsing his candidacy I glanced over them today and noticed that throe of the number were written by Senators Carey and Warren of Wyoming and Chief Justice Zane of Salt Lake Mr Tatlock is also highly indorsed and among his backers IB Secretary John W Noble of tie interior department The attorneygeneral told mo that the appointment appoint-ment would be made immediately after the election General Miller is now in Indiana but he will be back in Washington on Wednesday next when ho will take up and consider the claims of the various candidates After 1 had asked him a few questions the attorney general turned the tables on me by asking me one Said he How is Mr Tatlock regarded in Salt Lake I replied that I had heard him spoken of as an excellent lawyer and that he was moreover a dead square honest man The attorney general laughed goodnaturedly That latter qualification said he signifi cantlyis a mighty good one You couldnt have than said that a better word for Mr Tatlock |
