Show THE STRIKE IS ON All of the Industries at New Orleans at a Standstill Standstl Negotiations for ArbitriUin the Mater Brought to an Emi Troops Will fie Called Out Nmr ORLEANS Nov 6The strike assumed as-sumed alarming oroportions today and the prospect is that all the citys industries with probably one or two exceptions will bo at a stradstill tomrrrow The conference confer-ence between the merchants and tho laborers came to an abrupt end this afternoon after-noon The employers declined to accsda to the request of the employees for immediate arbitration and all negoiations for a settlement I settle-ment of the strike are now at an end Even the Typographical union which has been holding out against the strike today decided de-cided to go out The International Electrical Elec-trical workers having charge of the city electric lighting will also go out Arrangements Ar-rangements have been made to cal out the troop at a moments notice Street car traffic is entirely suspended The labor committee tiled a copy of their demands with the governor tonight which I calls for arbitration time wages and unionism un-ionism The merchants replied by submitting submit-ting a paper to withdraw the demand that the men return to work during tho penden cy of arbitration to arbitrate time and but declining to consider the wages declning question ques-tion of unionism The governor referred the matter to the labor committee which the latter said would have been submitted I to tie council in the morning pending which the matter rest for the night I |
