Show OUlt CONFIDENCE TUE HERALD has such perfect confidence in the intelligence and patriotism of thereat the-reat majority pf the men of Utah without with-out regard to politics or religion that wo believe the returns from Tuesdays voting will astound the Liberal candidate for Congress and fairly paralyze his party We believe that the people are going to show that whatever may be their opinions regarding religion they are opposed to disfranchisement dis-franchisement on the ground of belief that they do not approve the infamous proposition that good men born and reared in the country and devoted to its laws and institutions should be deprived of the suffrage suf-frage because some of their relatives or friends in the past disregarded a law and were punished for their ccnduct that they are D tin sympathy with the suggestion that worthy citizens who have always been lawabiding should bo denied the right to acquire and hold land under the beneficent land laws of the nation because their religious re-ligious belief does tot suit the Liberal candidate can-didate for Congress We know that fanaticism is rampart on the Liberal side in this controversy and that some members of tho party are blind in their Liberal loyalty and zeal yet we caonot think that tho intelligent and fair men in the party will go so far as to vote for the man who is the father and chief advocate ad-vocate of some of the most monstrous propositions pro-positions which were ever presented in this republic propositions which i put into practice would make residence in Utah intolerable in-tolerable to a selfrespecting person We believe that the independent men in the Liberal party are going to say either by voting for Mr CAINU or by not voting at all that they think there is such a thing in this world as fairness in politics and religion re-ligion and that Mr GOODWIN does not re I present it in any line he has ever written or any position ho has ever taken since ho came to Utah We believe that the vote will ao such a rebuke that even the Liberal nominee will sense I i and conclude that the course that he is pursuing in opposing the peace progress and prosperity for which all good citizens i are striving will be no longer approved by the better and more influential men in his party and that if he shall persist in it he must look for encouragement and support to the fanatic and ignorant classes Qf course the Peoples voters are eng to perform their whole duty They are going to vote for Mr CAIKF bccaase he is the manof their choice in this community because be-cause by honorable able and commendable services in behalf of the territory ho bal won a warm corner in the hearts of the people because he has proven himself trustworthy and because all recognize that he will properly represent this great and growing community in the national legislature legisla-ture and at the seat of government And then the People are going to vote for Mr CAINE to show their devotion to the principles 1 prin-ciples of republican government and their I detestation of the doctrine that American citizens should be disfranchised and he made subject to the rule or petty tyrants such as the Liberal candidate would make I masters over thorn |
