| Show A Fight in Plymouth Church Special to THE HEUALD Examiner Dispatch NEW YORK Feb 22There Is a hot fight in Plymouth church Brooklyn as to the advisability of admitting Darwin Mes reole to membership Mcsreolo is a son of General V Mesrole and his family is one of the best known in Brooklyn General Mcsrolo is prominent in financial social and political circles The objection to young Mesrcoles application to membership in Plymouth church has manifested itself I principally among the women members It is all due to a sensation that the young man figured in last spring when ho shot and killed Theodore Larbig in Davio Com stocks flat in Sackett street under peculiar circumstances Mrs Comstock was a divorced di-vorced woman and Mesrolo was boarding with her when the fight occurred between him and Larbig a former admirer of Mrs I Comstock resulting in the killing of Lar big After his trial which resulted in acquittal Mesrcole became a constant attendant at-tendant at Plymouth church He made application for membership making the necessary professions of faith and expressing express-ing anxiety to devote his future life to missionary mis-sionary work This application was made in December two weeks after his acquittal acquit-tal and at a time when Mesreole identified himself with the City Mission society The committee on membership of Plymouth church received the application The gentlemen gen-tlemen had long conversations with Mes reole which led a majority of them to believe be-lieve in the sincerity of the young mans conversion A report to this effect is said to have been prepared and was to Lave been presented at the last Friday evening eve-ning in December but it was withheld it having been intimated that many members of the congregation a majority of them ladies wero opposed to Meseroles admission admis-sion Rev Dr Abbott pastor of the church declined to talk on the subject but Mrs Abbott said I fail to ceo why Mr Meserole should not be received into the fold He had led a vile and wicked life up to the time of the tragedy When ho was living a vile life ho was received in society with open arms Now that he has renounced re-nounced that life and has expressed his intention in-tention of living a purer one society turns its back on him and yet is he far better than the men who are doing vile and wicked things and still moving in society because they havent been found out The application will be voted on next Friday night and friends of Meserole think they will be able to overcome the opposition opposi-tion of the women |
