Captain Yocum Shoots Myron Van Fleet LINCOLN Neb Feb 22 AjState Journal special from Basting says a deplorable tragedy occurred in that city this evening Captain A D Yocum exmayor of Hastings Hast-ings and at present special inspector of customs with headquarters at Idaho who is home on a visit this evening met Mayo Van Fleet in front of Hotel Bostwick on one of the busiest thoroughfares of the city and without a word pulled a revolver and fatally shot Van Fleet The affair is tho outgrowth of a scandalous article published pub-lished in a sensational sheet in Lincoln in December alleging that Captain Yocums daughter had eloped to Denver with a colored coachman The story spread until it reached tho cars of tho family when the fact was made public Miss Yooum had not been away from the city at alL It is asserted as-serted cho has been hounded by Van Fleet Fleet 1 who had repeatedly thrust his attentions attentons upon her When Captain Yocum returned he investigated the matter satisfied himself him-self that Van Fleet was the author of the scandal and tonight shot him Yocum is in custody
