Show I KAYSViLLE KEYS Striking Back at Farmington Politics Disease Winter ete The article in last Sundays HERALD under misleading head of Farmington Facts contained a reference to Kays vie which is not altogether in keeping with its purported veracity and the writer C T has got himself into a very unenviable unen-viable dilemma His own townsfolk repudiate repu-diate his statements and the motives prompting them as evidenced by the ca din d-in Fridays HeRALD signed by J M j I Secrist and James T Smith The laugh Is j decidedly on C T when tho bishop and justice of tho peace of his own town take up tho matter against him in behalf of the people i The first paragraph of his article would lead a person to suppose that Kaysville has been using energetic efforts t secure I the removal of the county seat to this place but such is not the case Our citizens citi-zens so far as we can learn have never asked for it They believe that Kaysvillo is the future county seat and they are content con-tent to wait lu a sickly attempt at sarcasm sar-casm the writer says that our new and costly city bal is situated outside and north of the main portion of the city Wo wish to say fur the writers information that our city hall is considerably less than half a mile from the main business houses and that over twofifths of the citys population popu-lation reside north of the building Wo I make this statement merely to Oorrect an i error due wo feel sure to the writers ignorance i of the facts and not to any wilful wil-ful misrepresentation of the case Tne chronicler of the alleged facts admits that bounteous nature endowed Kaysvillo with more natural facilities for a prosperous city than was allotted to Farmington but he cites the fact that their sidewalks are wider than ours as proof of tho intellectual superiority of their cit zens Ho doubtless mentioned this for want of something else to say but until such time as they can have their sidewalks reserved for their proper use instead of r I making them in connection with their streets a pasture for stock in the summer and a bedground during the winter months he had better take a friends advice ad-vice and drop the sidewalk question W 8 A IETIXO Tho regular monthly meeting of tho local Womans Suffrage association was held at the Relief society hall on Thursday evening last Instructive addresses wore made by some of our local ladies and gentlemen gen-tlemen in behalf of the womans suffrage movement The meeting was quite interesting inter-esting and was well attended NOTES ON TUB SIDE Mr Seth Jones has taken charge of the intermediate department of the Eighth district school in place of Miss Celia Raymond Ray-mond resigned The cold weather still continues The Little Clipper the paper which is issued is-sued monthly at Bountiful was inflicted on a longsuffering public again this week The orthography is as bad as ever A wellattended meeting of the Social and Literary society was held at the Academy Acad-emy building last evening and a short spicy programme was rendered Notice was given that the question Resolved That the present system of protective tariff is a benefit to the United States would be discussed before the society between be-tween Edward Whitesides and J H Lin ford jr on Friday evening February 5 The Democratic caucus for the purpose of nominating a municipal ticket to be voted for on February 1 will bo held at the city hall this evening at 7 oclock The Democrats will of course placo men in nomination who are best qualified for the respective positions and who will receive the support of a largo majority of our citizens citi-zens It is not probable that any other ticket will be in the field The district school In the northwestern part of town has baen closed on account of the prevalence of diphtheria in that quarter quar-ter Several cases of a serious nature are reported and one death that of a daughter daugh-ter of Andrew Egbart has occurred recently re-cently Four other members of Mr En gerts family are down with the dread dir ease but yesterday afternoon they were somewhat better Two children of Charles A Layton are also afflicted and it is feared that ono of them will not recover The two families are quarantined and everything every-thing possible to prevent the spread of the disease isbeing done M KATSVILLE January 231S92 |
