Show FATAL ACCIDENT M V Jlurd Falls Down an Elevator Shaft Last Night A rightful accident and one that will probably result in the death of Martin V iurd occurred last night Hurd who is a man of family resides at No 244 East Brigham street has been em plo ed as a carpenter on the Simondi buildIng and at 4 oclock yesterday afternoon he was paid off with the rest of ho men and left It is supposed that he went up town and after drinking consid ably returned to the building Ho probably I proba-bly > went up to the top floor of the place and went to sleep nail the generally accepted theory is that ho awoke about oclock and in walking about tho place tumbled down the elevator shaft The unfortunate nan fell clear into tho basement strik lug the tiling at tho ground floor Tho watchman heard tho noise of the fall but > it was nearly an hour later when Hurds groaning attracted tho attention of the watchman wlio with the attention of Mr Stern conveyed tho unfortunate man to the Knutsfora pharmacy Dr Fisher was at once called called in and an examination showed that Hurd was suffering from a fractured skull and that here was but slight chance for his recovery covery After his wounds had been dressed Hurd was convoyed to his homo in the patrol wagon At an early hour this morning it was earned that Hurd was dying |
