Show THE FLASH LIGHT CAUGHT HIM How a Photograph Was Obtained of an Unwilling Prisoner Mr John Hensley is an inmate of the city prison at San Francisco Because of Mr Hensleys past record the authorities t l n r I THE THREE FAILURES thought it would be a good idea to have his portrait for insertion in the rogues album al-bum So they sent for a photographer and made ready the sitter But Mr Hens ley didnt prove a good subject He not only objected vigorously but also screwed his countenance into as many shapes as the facial muscles would allow He shut his eyes pursed up his mouth wrinkled his brows scowled ran out his tongue and in other ways did his best to make the picture taking a failure The artist art-ist got three shots at him with the camera but as the accompanying illustration shows they can hardly be termed successful success-ful ones Finally the job was given up asa as-a very bad one and Mr Hensley returned to his cell jubilantly triumphant Force had failed but strategy was to succeed The photographer was mad and so also were the officers Therefore they put up a little job destined to turn the prisoners joy to rage At night Hensley was taken out as he understood it for purposes of identification While walking a walk-ing through y he corridor he heard a click and a bang saw a blinding glare and was suffocated suffocat-ed by a smell of f sulphur Be dropped on his k k hands and knees I but it was too THE SUCCESS late The flashlight had done its work I and printed on a plate an excellent negative nega-tive The photograph here reproduced I shows that MI Hensley is not a bad looking look-ing person under ordinary conditions of I i life |
