Show ICon Qno Basoball: Tailing SEiopo lyDAVEWIGHAM BLNTIFUL - Region One iiOill is just about at the liny point in their season i': already the teams are tng to weed themselves II1HE outset of the league k coaches indicated that a Id! the league would be iccd and that any team J beat the other on a :.n day. As it stands now '-statement would still me water. :iful and Bonneville emerged as the winners point with both only '! one loss thus far. The 'only loss came at the -Solthe Lakers last week 3 lost 2-1 while the suffered a humiliating astoViewmont. J VIKINGS have lost counters, but they tn improving each 'y appear to be ready , ge the two leaders. WsSet their second . Bountiful this week travel up the hill to j: Bras. Clearfield .losses m ,neir name yalcnns aren't about n and quit at this eter and Sky View i all have three losses in the ledger but all of them have been tough opponents. Weber makes the mental errors and it has cost them, against Viewmonl they only gave up three hits but committed fivt errors and lost the game. Roy is on and off, they have one good pitcher and they are extremely ex-tremely tough when he's on the mound. Sky View plays good defense but has trouble getting runs across the plate. LAYTON IS currently in the cellar but that is no indication of how tough this cljb is. For example they took Clearfield into extra innings before losing los-ing by one run. The Lancers are a good example of the balance of the league, they can very well be undeteaiea at this point. Each club has their share of stars but down the stretch the key word is pitching. Bountiful Boun-tiful has a couple of great pitchers in Lynn Muir and Steve Hilton, Viewmont has a couple in Mark Gam and Kelly Downs. Clearfield sports Glen Abeyta, Weber has Bruce Hobbs while Bonneville Bon-neville has Gaylen Dearden. ROUND TWO will begin this next week with the clubs facing each other for the second time, pitching will he - the key and in that department depart-ment Bountiful gets the edge. With two aces the Braves can play each game as they come, Viewmont can also afford to do that with their pitchers, the other schools have only one bona fide pitcher and that's going to catch up sooner or later. Look for Bountiful, Viewmont, View-mont, Clearfield and Bonneville to fight it out for the title. Layton will definitely defi-nitely be the spoiler, the Lancers are too good of a team not to win in the league. |
