Show uiewmont Shows Promise By DAVE WIGHAM ROY - Roy High used their depth to take a 92-49 track victory over Viewmont but the Vikes showed they had some talent especially in the dist nce races. THE ROYALS won almost all the running races but they failed to sweep any of them while the Vikes took the top three places in both the mile and the two mile. Christiansen, Begay and McDonald gave the Vikes the first sweep in the mile then Gelly Gibs, Begay and McDonald duplicated the sweep in the two mile. Gibbs is considered one of the top runners in the region, he is the most consistent point getter get-ter for the Vikes. VIEWMONT'S only other first place finishes came in the shot and the javelin. Scott Eden won the shot with a toss of 48-6 while Carl Pond took the javelin with a throw of 148 feet. Brad Gibson gave the Vikes a second place finish in the javelin also. One of the top features of the day was in the hurdle events with Lyman of Roy and Kyle Bouwhuis of Viewmont going head to head. Lyman won both races With Kyle taking second in both the 120 and 330 hurdle events. Brett Hales gave the Vikes third place points in the 120 event. VIEWMONT got a couple of second places out of John Skedros in the 880 and Marty Ford in the high jump. Dale Boren took third in the high jump for the Vikes. The Vikes' other points came from George Jacobsen, third in 220, Matt String-fellow, String-fellow, third in the 440, and Mike Buttars a third in the long jump. ROY SHOWED their power and depth by winning all three of the relay events. Each week the Vikings are improving their times and finishes, they know they don't have a lot of depth but their individuals are working hard and improving. THIS COMING week the Vikes are hosting a meet on Saturday and hope to have some individual winners. |
