Show County Players In College Ranks By DAVE WIGHAM BOUNTIFUL Ever wonder won-der what type of coaching these players around the county coun-ty are getting in football? IF YOU ASK the college people they will tell you that it must be pretty good because many local athletes go on to college ball and perform well past their prep days. Scouts from every college in Utah, and many outside, always al-ways make sure that the Davis County schools are on their list of visits. Lach year at Clearfield. Clear-field. Layton. Davis. View-mont. View-mont. Bountiful and Woods Cross, the college folks are talking lo the coaches about their players and they seem to pick up a lot of them. CURRENTLY PLAYING in the college ranks, as near as this survey can tell . are 40 football foot-ball players who once represented repre-sented one of the six county schools. Get them all together and you would have a great team. Layton leads the parade with 17 ex-Lancers on squads. Bountiful has nine. Davis has six. Clearfield has three, View-mont View-mont has three and Woods Cross has one. THE LONE player from Woods Cross is Mark Tate who is playing at Dixie College. Col-lege. Mark has been playing on the defensive line for the Rebels. Re-bels. Several other Cats could be playing football but are concentrating con-centrating on wrestling. Two ex-Viewmont players, are on the Southern Utah State team in Cedar City. Craig Cor-, Cor-, ry is a two year man at a line-backer line-backer spot while Carey Bleckert is a freshman who is playing on the line. The other ex-Viking is Gregg Day who is : seeing considerable action for : the University of Utah, both as a linebacker and on special teams. ALL THREE of the Clearfield Clear-field players are on major college col-lege teams. Robbie Richeson is a redshirt at the University of Utah this season after lettering the two previous seasons. Bob Berrerra is a starting defensive tackle for the Las Vegas club while Mike Muir is playing for Weber State. Two ex-Davis players are seeing considerable action for the Weber State club. Ryan Hill is in the defensive secondary secon-dary while Bret Frodsham is playing center. Jon Warden is playing at Utah State, David Johnson is at Snow and then Mike Mounteer and Kevin Criddle are both playing at Dixie. BOUNTIFUL players are spread out in four junior colleges. col-leges. Rex Burningham. Clark Mabey and Curtis Sampson -are at Ricks, Kevin Kott is at Snow and Ron Graham is at Eastern Utah. Three others are at Dixie with Frank Sessions, Ses-sions, Page Bennett and Kurt Thompson. The ninth Bountiful Bounti-ful player is Cory Hilton who is on the University of Utah club. Layton is represented all over the state and some parts of the country. Dave Burke is at Nebraska. Chuck Ehin and Brandon Flint are at BYU. Maurice Turner and Todd Sta-pley Sta-pley are at Utah State, Ben Bubak and Mark Vigil are at Idaho and then Curtis Page, Trace Burningham, Sam Gal-legos, Gal-legos, Monte Green. Wayne Kittrell and Rick Snow are all at Southern Utah. THOSE EX-LANCERS at junior college include Mike Overly at Snow, along with Brian Wick, Fred Lacey and Jeff Wright at Dixie.
