Show Udy Sec!ts Vote To School Board I'' ) i 7v. ' i j CALVIN UDY A Farmington resident has announced his candidacy for the Davis School Board from precinct 3. CALVIN J. (Cal) Udy, 621 South 100 East, Farmington, will seek tne post being vacated by Harold Gailey of Kaysville. In making the announcement, an-nouncement, Mr. Udy said he feels the time has come for the election of a school board member that is willing to deal with overcrowded classes, oppose the effect of Title I and Title IX and maintain an open door to parents and teachers. AN employee of Western Electric Company since 1966, Mr. Udy worked as campaign coordinator for Congressman Gunn McKay in Davis County in 1972. He is a former member of the Waterloo Ward Bishopric in Salt Lake City and served an LDS mission mis-sion in South Australia. He is a graduate of Granite High School in Salt Lake City and attended the University of Utah. Mr. Udy, at age 31, is married to the former Carol Wheeler and has four children from seven months to seven years. HE IS a former volunteer with the Juvenile Probation Division of First District Juvenile Court of Utah, was a member of the Utah National Guard, U.S. Army Reserve, Advisory Council of Utah State Vocational and Technical Tech-nical Education Committee and PTA Legislative Chairman Chair-man at Farmington Elementary. Elemen-tary. Mr. Udy is presently a member of the Governor's Committee for Employment of the Handicapped, Executive Execu-tive Board of the Davis County United Way and Vice President of the Utah State AFLCIO. MR. UDY stated that "the basic thrust of my campaign will be an effort to lake my position on the issues facing the Davis School District directly to the voters of my Precinct allowing them to make their decisions on those commitments at the polls." "We must stress academics. Novelty and experimental activities may be fashionable and entertaining, entertain-ing, but they are often extremely costly and jeopardize jeopar-dize the brief time alloted for foundation courses," Udy stated. MR. UDY further voiced the "urgent need to restore student respect for the teacher in the classroom by school board support of old fashioned discipline." Precinct 3 includes hast Layton, Fruit Heights, Kaysville, Kays-ville, Farmington, Center-ville, Center-ville, West Bountiful and a section of Layton. |
