Show Call Camp D UP To Attend Meet The Mary Flint Call Camp of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers met Friday, Oct. 20, at the home of Mrs. Clara Bunting with thirteen members and three special guests present. THEY WERE served a 1 p.m. luncheon by Mrs. Bunt-: Bunt-: ing, assisted by Mrs. Wilda : Bluemel. Mrs. Bluemel also ' greeted the guests and con-: con-: ducted the meeting. The flag salute was led by Mrs. Bunting and invocation and blessing on the food was presented by Mrs. Carol Haskell. FOLLOWING luncheon the minutes were read by Gertrude Ger-trude Anderson and roll call of members made. Each member answered with their camp number. MRS. HASKELL conducted the group singing of the pioneer theme song and "Drink To Me Only With Thine Eyes," accompanied by Mrs. Anderson. Mrs. Elizabeth DeVogne was the guest soloist. She sang "Drink To Me Only With Thine Eyes", accompanied by Mrs. Haskell. . COUNTY CAMP visitors were Mrs. Geo Page, registrar, regis-trar, and Mrs. Maxine Rowland, historian. Mrs. Page reported on the county camp convention. Mrs. Rowland told of the ur gent need for histories especially personal histories of the DUP members. MRS. AMELIA Homer was released as a camp member. She has been a valuable member for many years, but has moved with her family to Salt Lake City. Four DUP members were excused. MRS. HASKELL, lesson leader, presented an interesting interest-ing account of early Utah bands and orchestras. PETERSEN Elder Mark E. Petersen, a member of the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, will speak at the Bountiful Utah Orchard Stake Conference Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 30 and 31, in Bountiful. THE PUBLIC is invited to attend the Sunday Conference session at 10 a.m., in the Bountiful-Woods Cross Regional Center (formerly Valley Music Hall) in Bountiful. Boun-tiful. Stake President Robert J. Martin of Bountiful will conduct. Elder Mark E. Petersen is one of the senior members of the Council of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon). He was named to the Council of the Twelve Apostles in April, 1944. ELDER Petersen is well known throughout the church . as a forceful speaker and writer, and for many years was prominently identified with the church's public relations rela-tions program as chairman of the Church Information Committee. Com-mittee. He served as an advisor to the newly organized department depart-ment of Public Communications. DM HIS information assignment assign-ment he has taken the lead in the establishment and operation opera-tion of many of the far-flung visitors centers of the church. These visitors centers are established es-tablished at most of the important im-portant historic sites of the church and at the various temples in the United States and those in England, Switzerland, Swit-zerland, and New Zealand. As a former newspaper reporter and editor and through his writings and sermons ser-mons since becoming one of the General Authorities, Elder Petersen has made extensive ex-tensive literary contributions to the church. HIS MANY published editorials edi-torials and nearly a score of books he has authored have established a reputation of understanding and forthright counseling on the issues of the day and exorting members of the church, particularly the youth, to faithful adherance to the gospel principles and righteous living. Elder Petersen started his newspaper career in the mid-1920's as a reporter for the Deseret News, the church-owned newspaper in Salt Lake City. He advanced through the ranks to become editor, general manager, and later president of the Deseret News Publishing Company. HE PRESENTLY serves as one of two advisors to the Genealogical Society of the church and is a member of the Society's Board of Trustees. Trus-tees. He is also adviser to the Church Music Committee and the auxiliary organizations of the church. During the nearly three decades as a church official, he has traveled widely throughout the world visiting missions and stakes and on other church assignments. In the mid-1960's he presided over the West European Mission Mis-sion with headquarters in London. ELDER PETERSEN was born in Salt Lake City, Nov. 7, 1900. He was married Aug. 30, 1923 in the Salt Lake Temple to Emma Marr McDonald. They were the parents of two daughters. Mrs. Petersen died April 15, 1975. |
