Show FUNERAL HELD MONDAY FOR C. RAY VAN LEUVAN Many relatives and friends attended at-tended services Monday afternoon in the Fifth ward for C. Ray Van Leuvan of this city, who died unexpectedly un-expectedly Friday of a heart ail-'ment, ail-'ment, at the home of his mother, Mrs. Emma Van Leuvan. Burial was in the Evergreen cemetery, under direction of Clau-din Clau-din Funeral Home. Mr. Van Leuvan had been home service director of the Red Cross in Baltimore, Md., before being transferred to Utah 18 months ago. A native of Springville, he was born Oct. 28, 1899, a son of Cornelius Corne-lius A. and Emma Beardall Van Leuven. After attending Springville Spring-ville schools, he was graduated from Brigham Young university. Later he received his master's degree de-gree from the University of Washington Wash-ington in the field of bacteriology. In May, 1933, Mr. Van Leuvan accepted a position as juvenile probation officer in Washington, D. C. In 1938 he was promoted to adult probation officer in the field of domestic relations. Mr. Van Leuvan became associ. ated with American Red Cross in 1941, serving as assistant field director di-rector at Fort George G. Meade, Md. In January, 1942, he was named assistant field director in the Los Angeles area, returning to the eastern states in April, where he was assigned to survey all posts, camps and stations in the southern area of New Jersey. After completing that assignment he was advanced to field director with Third service command headquarters head-quarters at Baltimore, Md. In June, 1944, he was named director of home service for the Baltimore chapter. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he was a member of the Springville Spring-ville Fifth LDS ward Sunday school superintendency at the time of his death. He married Vera Johnson, Dec. 22, 1932. Survivors include his widow, three sons, C. Ray Van Leuvan Jr., Dale and Kent Van Leuvan, Springville; his mother; three brothers and a sister, Mrs. Hilda Boyack, Lewis B. Van Leuvan, Spanish Fork; Clifford and Ardeen Van Leuvan, Springville. |
