whether I servo you or not depends upon your suffrage Tuesday next I elected I will endeavor to represent the people of Utah as I have in the past I will try to do so without regard to party or sect We are not here to discuss national politics iu the states they have a Republican and Democratic Demo-cratic party who discuss the tariff etc but in Utah we have the Peoples party which claims and has as its issue the right of selfgovernment the right of the people t govern L themselves We believe it i the ijfc > ul ui a nuu iJisu uu to govern tnemseives as the right given us by the constitution consttu tion of the United States and the Declaration of Independence We j do not believe the people should be disfranchised because they have their own organization t worship God and the I proposition t disfranchise a part of the I people is unAmerican and unjust Ap plause The issue has been forced u onus on-us lam astonished that somo members of Itie Liberal and party my opponent can stand upon such a platform but 11 Good win has placed himself upon that issue and we must defend our rights I stand for human rights I stand upon the platform of self government for the people I want to see republican government in this territory ci freemen but I ont want to see an empire em-pire or government where men are not al lowed to be freemen The charge the Liberals have made against me is that I have opposed legislation upon certain bills for the benefit of Utah What bills these are I do not know unless it was the proposed bill for the disfranchisement of part of the people I did oppose it and will do so as long as God shall let shal me live I am opposed op-posed to 1 disfranchisement of innocent men ue IUCY muriiiuiib or Methodists lueinouisis Ii am an American citizen I claim to be an American therefore I believe in the largest freedom for American citizens CheersJ 1 think that your will mayor wi concede con-cede that I did all I could to heip him secure a public building for your city which you were all ea to nl eager get and he will admit it if be is an honorable man The bill for a public building for Ogden shared the fate of that of Salt Lake and others President Harrison vetoed then the-n credit bill because he as Sena tor had introduced the bill to limit the credit of territories It was a pet measure I I of tis to carry out that theory I When I espoused my religious views those which I now hold I did not surrender I my right of American citizenship nor do I intend to and I shall not recognize tho right of any man to tell me how to vote I you wish to become slaves to relm quish your right of citizenship and the right which entitles you toot I to-ot just vote for C C Goodwin Tuesday next and I will promise you that you will be slaves all
