Show Lack Of Interest Marks Pending Run-Off Election . Utah voters will go to the poles on Tuesday, August 20, to cast their ballots in the state's run-off election. The June primary pri-mary failed to settle the Republican Repub-lican senatorial dispute between William L. Baker of Provo and Arthur V. Watkins of Orem, while it tied the. Duchesne county coun-ty GOP 2-ycar county commissioner commis-sioner race into a triple knot in volving Nathan Jones, Tabiana; Henry Wathen, Bluebell and George Brandon, Wt. Home. Tuesday's vote in Duchesne county will be a strictly Republican Repub-lican affair with the names of Baker and Watkins anpearing as the party's senatorial aspirants and Nathan Jones and Her"-v Wathen contesting for the right to appear on the November ballot bal-lot as the candidate for 2-year county commissioner. The complicated status of Wathan and Brandon was settled early in the week by a lottery i which resulted in Wathen's name being drawn. In the primary election Jones failed to poll a clear majority and Wathen and Brandon tied, each with 76 votes. To break the Brandon-Wathen Brandon-Wathen deadlock and clear the track for a two-man contest iff the August run-off, the district judge was requested to conduct the drawing. The action put Wathen in the running against Nathan Jones for the 2-year post. The winner in Tuesday's election elec-tion will oppose incumbent Floyd Case, Democrat of Mt. Emmons in November. An extremely light vote is expected ex-pected on August 20. Issues have not been clearly established, hence the run-off has assumed the appearance of nothing more than a minor political engage; ment between four men. Observers Obser-vers agree that Utah's involved election laws have brought about a general attitude of disinterest dis-interest among the voters. |
