Workers in American Ameri-can industry were safer in 1948 than in any year in history, the National Safety Council reports. Reports to the council indicate that disabling injuries per 1,000,-000 1,000,-000 man-hours averaged 11.49 for all reporting industries in 1948. This is a 13 per cent reduction from the 13.26 rate the year before, be-fore, and a new record. An average aver-age of 1.12 days were lost per 1,000 man-hours worked in all industries in-dustries last year, a reduction of 9 per cent from 1947 also the best on record.
