Show LOCAL CIVIC CLUB j LAUDED BY VISITOR DISTRICT HEAD OF LIONS CLUBS PAYS LOCAL TRIBUTE " J District Governor Hansen, of the twenty-eighth district of Lions Clubs, comprising Idaho and Utah, was a guest of the Milford Lions Club at luncheon at the Hotel Milford Wednesday Wed-nesday Mr. Hansen was enthusiastic enthusias-tic in his praise of the Milford club, and stated that a visit here with the local men was an inspiration, and that their past civic achievements should be heralded or put on display for other clubs to see and to pattern after. It was common knowledge throughout the state, he said, that the Milford Lions were throwing their shoulders to the wheel and putting over to the point of completion anything that they started. There was no need, he said, to enumerate the activities, but he counted seven distinct and separate ones that were discussed during the luncheon. All outstanding needs here were being taken care of by the club, he said. He spoke of the growth of Lions Clubs until, he said, they were the; second largest service association in j the- world. Their growth has caused them to surpass Kiwanis clubs, he ' stated, with over 1400 clubs in the' United States and seven foreign j countries, with a total membership I of over 60,000. New charters are be-' be-' ing granted to Bigbee and Ashton, Idaho, in this district, and he is desir-' desir-' ous that clubs be formed at Fillmore j and Delta in this state. He asked ! the active work of this club in help-1 help-1 ing to arouse interest in Lionism i among the Deltans. I Plans now call for intense work to secure the 1930 international convention conven-tion for Salt Lake. A big uniformed Utah delegation will be sent, with bands and lots of noise, to Louisvilk in 1929, and every effort will be made to bring the meet to Utah's capitol the next year. Mr. Hansen urged that automobile insignias be used locally by Milford Lions, and spoke of how their use in California was attracting attention. There are 22 clubs in Utah and 5 in Idaho in this district, he said. Membership in these clubs can be the better increased, he stated, by constant con-stant devotion to civic labors rather than by solicitation of individuals. |
