There is a total enrollment of 548 with an average weekly attendan-e of 5C2. ' Our school-room is beautifully decorated deco-rated with maps, charts and pictures of our eldest presidents aud statesmen. Tl e e are a number of very Pn9 piects under progress for the 'celebration which is to be hold on 221 of this month. -Local teachers meetings are held every Tuesday evening iu the central school buildlug where questions per-tinet per-tinet to pedagogic labor are regularly discussed. In addition to this every branch of study is pursued.. At present our preceptors are pondering over natural nat-ural philosophy aud they wiil nexi take up psycholcgy. Colonel Purker, principal cf the Cook county normal school and perhaps the most popular American educator, has been engaged to give a series of lectures in the Brigham Young a !2demy next summer. It is understood that he will be accompanied by his wife who is also a teacher of high standing. Our sister city will yet be the Alexandria of the lnter-mountain region. After the present jear it is most likely ihat the common branches wiil not be taught in the university. The preparatory conise of study merely supplied a deficiency of the common schools, But now it is supposed, that under the new school law, every city of 1500 inbabitents cr ovor will provide itself it-self with a high school. Pnpils graduating gradu-ating could t.then enter without the university examination. Payson should be no longer without a school above the grammar grade. The finul session of the Utah county teachers as.eciatiou will be held at Pleasant Grove on tho 15th. An excellent excel-lent programas been prepared for the occasion, one of the most interesting features of which is a debate on manual training as a handicraft in the district schools. The importance of the Utah county teachers association an educational edu-cational factor in our county has long been recognized and this session by the "northern" peoplo will, no doubt, add to its former glory. |
