Show Two Cedar City Couples Take Weekend Trip Through Hole-in-Rock to Colorado River Mr. and Mrs. Theron AsJicroft and Mr. and Mrs. Custive O. Larson spent last wk end on the old trail of the San Juan pioneers, accompany by liandal W. Lyman, guide. The party traveled 60 miles by jeep from Escalante to "Sody" for an overnight stay. Saturday morning, 10 miles more of traveling tra-veling brought them to the famous fa-mous Hole-in-rock leading from the rocky mesa down to the Colorado Col-orado river. As the party descended through the narrow mile and a quarter slit, it came across pick marks where solid walls of rock had been widened to allow wagon passage, steps cut in solid stone, and dug-ways propped against steep rocky slopes. At the river's edge, where the desperate crossing was made In January of 1880, the party signed the register of the river-runners who have stopped there, and the very few who have descended through the Hole in the-rock in modern times. |
