Show Dam dedication to be conducted PARAGONAH - The newly-rebuilt Red Creek Dam and Reservoir near here will be dedicated Aug. 6, at 11 a.m. I Reconstruction of the earthl ill dam started. in 1979 and cost almost $466.50(1. The project was 1 finished in November i 19809, nearly doubling I water storage capacity of I the reservoir to 1,360 I acre-feet. Construction 1 funds were provided by J the Paragonah Canal J Company, project I sponsor; Utah Board of J Water Resources; and 1 Division of Wildlife I Resources of the I Department of Natural 1 Resources and Energy. J The original Red Creek I Dam was built in the late I 1880's, then enlarged and i improved in 1920. The I Paragonah Canal g Company bought the dam m and reservoir in 1967. I Plans to repair leaks in the. dam structure, rebuild , (the dam em-4 em-4 bankment, and build a spillway to accommodate high runoffs were initiated in 1970. The Paragonah Canal Company made ap plication lor lunds from the Hoard ol Water Resources in 1077. The dam structure is 62 feet high with a crest length of 850 feet and a crest width of 20 feet. The rebuilt dam structure contains more than 91,000 cubit feet of earthl'ill material. The project now also includes a 350 acre-loot conservation pool for fish. Water from the reservoir serves about 2,200 acres of land. Individuals scheduled to attend the dedication ol the project include Sam Lister, president of the Paragonah Canal Company; Temple A. Reynolds, executive director of the Utah Department of Natural Resources and Energy ; Roy Urie, Board ol Water Resources member representing Iron County; other members of the Board; and Daniel F. Lawrence, Interstate Streams commissioner and director of the Division of Water Resources, Utah Department of Natural Resources and Energy. |
