Show Letters to the editor WMC thanked Editor: Thank you Valley View Medical Center, thank you again: Everyone knows that even the thought of surgery, be it medical or dental, has its trepidations. When I arrived in Cedar City eight years ago the medical profession and the local hospital didn't have too good of a reputation. After a few years I needed some care and went to one doctor who prescribed a medication that didn't work, and the next doctor I tried always takes you an hour and half later than your appointment which adds high blood pressure to whatever other " problems you have. So as these few years have progressed and I needed both medical and dental care I have stalled it off. Having spent 20 years in New York State and another 20 years in southern California where the medical facilities are superb, I was rather leary of getting get-ting second-class health care. Finally between my few medical problems and my escalating dental problems I had to do something. About this time I met Dr. Paul Nielsen who was just opening his practice and we were chatting about health care in Cedar City. He has not only helped me with my problems but has been very prompt and efficient. By now the pressure in my jaw from some bad teeth was getting unbearable. Since there is no oral surgeon in Cedar I would have had to go to Provo to get the teeth out and that really isn't too convenient. At this most opportune time I met Marcus Kuypers and he told me that within a few weeks the hospital would start doing dental surgery and if I could wait then this might be the way to go. I debated about a dentist but had heard several excellent reports of how Dr. Ned Gregerson and his staff have done many hospital surgeries on accident ac-cident victims. Consulting with him confirmed the extensive work I had to have done and the fact that he felt it would be best done at the hospital while , I was under anesthesia. Now I figured that the. anesthetist would tell me, "Don't worry Gloria we know what we1 are doing and will take good care of you". Instead my feelings were sought out and my fears and dislikes were taken into consideration as regards the anesthetic and recovery periods. Thanks Joe Gold and Dale Koford for that. I must say that the two and a half hour surgery went without a hitch. Last but not least we cannot forget the recovery room gals and the emergency room gals that brought me out of that wonderful deep sleep and back to reality. So from pre-admit and pre-lab to discharge I had not had the horrible experience it could have been, but as pleasant an experience as any hospital surgical procdure could be. Thanks to the doctors just mentioned and to the nurses Gail, Chris, Giana anc LaRue and also to Betty Stubbs who made a special trip down to see how I was recovering. Come on Cedarites, support the good physicians and health care facilities that are here. Gloria Sarkis Gratitude expressed Editor: I'd like to go on record, saying "thanks" to Dahl Gardner for the course he, as director, is pursuing at the Valley View Medical Center. I recently underwent some testing out at the lab, and was so aware of the positive feelings, the good rapport and professional atmosphere that is there now. Thanks, too, for Mr. Gardner's determination to bring in good, capable specialists to complement the fine doctors already here in Cedar City. Last month I discovered a condition which was potentially serious; called my clinic, but finding the doctor of my choice out of town for several days, I called Dr. Paul Christensen, the new internal medicine specialist who has offices in the Chatterly Clinic. I found him to be very professional, very concerned and caring. My first inclination, upon diagnosis, was !'Oh send me to Vegas or Salt Lake for testing," but Dr. Christensen helped me understand the advantages of staying here for the lab work. Hence he kept valuable dollars here in Cedar City, and gave me the chance to upgrade my impression of the hospital. So thanks, Mr. Gardner and Dr. Christensen. I sincerely hope you are both in Cedar City for a long, long time. Beverly Gardner Thank you Editor: I would like to thank the Cedar City Kiwanis Club and the BMX Parents Association for all the hard work and time they donated to help make the grand opening of the new BMX (Bicycle Moto Cross) track a total success. A special thanks to Meade Forsyth and others for the endless hours they put into getting the track ready for the first race. Because of the popularity of this fast growing sport and not anticipating an-ticipating so many racers, I would like to thank Busy "B" Trophy for making up extra trophies on such short notice. Cedar City is really fortunate to have fcuch S find organization for its youth, Jan Reagan BMX Mother Weakness not wanted Editor: Plans for negotiations with the Soviets are far from encouraging. Time after time the Soviets have signed treaties, only to break them when they wished to do so. The people of every nation would like to avoid war. But war will never be prevented by agreements to disarm. It can be prevented only by a building up of everything necessary to present a strong defense. Weakness is a clear invitation to attack. One thing worse than an arms race is losing an arms race. Irene Adams Phoenix, Ariz. P.S. Get US out of the UN! Locals don't attend Editor We just had a very successful class reunion this past weekend as did many classes from Cedar High. This was the first time I had an opportunity to work on a reunion committee, and, believe me, it was work. We began in January and met every month after and practically prac-tically every night these past two weeks. I wish people would realize the time and effort that went into these functions and especially the time spent in locating classmates and finding out about their background since graduation. I wish everyone would have the experience ex-perience of working on a reunion committee to see the time and effort involved and to also have the enjoyment en-joyment that comes when it is successful suc-cessful and you see how much everyone enjoyed themselves. My hat's off to all of those who helped with their class reunions this year. I have talked to several people who attended reunions since the weekend and the one comment I heard more than any other was that the people who live right here in Cedar City were the very ones who did not come. People came from all over the United States and even from foreign lands to see their classmates, and the ones who live the closest are the ones who didn't support the reunion. I guess you could say it's their loss, but that doesn't compensate for the time and effort involved and the disappointment of not having as many come as were anticipated. It also makes it very difficult to get a close count of people to guarantee the cafe or caterer when people say they will probably come and then don't show up and they live right here in Cedar City. In our case, we had to come up with $72 extra to pay our bill. I hope in the future people in Cedar will make the effort to attend their class reunions that the people of town make, and I realize there are circumstances that come up that make it impossible for some people to attend, but it's surprising to find out how much fun they are and special these reunions are in serving to reunite old acquaintances and friends.
