A movemeait looking to the invasion cf Canada by the Fenians Fen-ians and the advanced Irish Nationalists National-ists had been agitated for some time by leaders of these organizations in and around Boston. Colonel Roger F. Can-ada. ( "This meeting." Colonel Scannel says, "will be followed by another in Boston, when reports from the Philadelphia meeting wi.'l be made by Boston delegates." dele-gates." Colonel Scannel says the present would be i good time for the invasion, as the troops of Canada are being sent away to lake part in the African war. "It has been agitated for years." continued con-tinued the colonel, "that Canada should either be annexed to the United States or should have an indei end&nt government govern-ment of its own. The present African war will, in my opinion, see the first break in the British empire. With an army of 100.000 Irish Nationalists engaged en-gaged in the invasion of Canada, it would make things interesting for the English government." Referring to the Femian invasion of Canada of many years ago. Colonel Scannel said that it was a failure because be-cause there were too manv ffemerals and colonels and no discipline. Thi3 would not happen now, he said, since the men are well organized all over the country, and have confidence in their leaders. |
